Dixie Chicks

There is an old stoneware pickle crock on our craigslist listed for $300.
That stoneware chicken feeder may be a good investment

Is it ceramic? Quite pretty.

As expected, Karin kept complaining about how ugly my soda bottle basil pot was. I decided to make a concept of the pots we're planning on using for herbs and lettuce this summer.

Both of us like the design of these tomato sauce cans, so we've been saving them all winter.

I moved the basil from the soda bottle pot into this one, it was starting to push out it's first sprouts, but now they're not visible. I did try to keep the top layer of soil as intact as possible. We'll see what happens. Once it get's warmer, I'm going to rig up a lot more of these, and instead of the glass jar, they will stand on a gutter I rigged up on the bunny pen. I think it will look pretty cool.

Can you explain this set up a little vehve?

Just saw this on Craigslist for $58. Antique chicken feeder, top comes off. Pretty cool.
grab it! killer price and you rarely find both pieces together. They are mostly for chicks and yes, they will use them but I wouldn't. Depending upon the markings could be a real find (clearly not Red Wing but could be Weller, etc.) I collect antique chicken stuff and I am

right now.

Donating blood is something I've always wanted to do more of, only done it once, we all should do it often, just keep putting it off.
I used to donate plasma. Lots of uses for it like medications for people with leukemia. Unfortunately, I have a low pain tolerance and am seriously scared of needles, so I couldn't donate any more. That and the saline is too cold for my body to handle. Sends me into shock.

Vehve you may want to coat the inside with something if they are metal.... Plastic coating or something... The metal can really mess with the plants.... I think it's a PH thing....

Question: I keep hearing ducks are more hardy then chickens when it comes to cold. Do you think a shelter like this would be sufficient for Cayuga and silver appleyard ducks?

Our temperatures will go as cold as -30C plus wind chill in the winter. The other plan would be to house them in with the chickens during the real cold spells.

My ducks preferred being outside no matter how cold, no shelter. They would winter in the neighbors pond, one small section never froze where the water runs in.

my large breed ducks did great with nothing more than a roof over their head and a 3 sided wind break. No losses on large breed ducks here. Half the time the slept out in the snow anyways!
