Dixie Chicks

My ducks preferred being outside no matter how cold, no shelter. They would winter in the neighbors pond, one small section never froze where the water runs in.

my large breed ducks did great with nothing more than a roof over their head and a 3 sided wind break. No losses on large breed ducks here. Half the time the slept out in the snow anyways!
WHAAAT? Even at -30C! I have new found respect for down feathers!

This means I could easily keep them in the chicken run over the winter.

Bc, scroll the latest pics for when I repotted the chilis, but basically the upper pot is filled with soil, and the bottom is perforated. Th string is buried in the bottom layer of soil, and sticks out of the holes below the pot, into a water container. It wicks up water, keeping the soil moist.

Sam, the inside is coated on these. Something waxy or plastc like.

I thought that they might.
Tomato products have that coating often.

Ahh, string, I thought it looked like straws.

Makes sense with string.

Science project from elementary school. Take heavy salt water and tie a string into it from a tooth pick. Within a few days you could see the salt crystals growing on the string. Same idea as yours.

Love it! Those are some cute ducks Hennible. Sounds like they'll be even easier then the chickens. I can't wait for mine. :D

NOT easier at all
Way messier... Changing water 3+ times a day. Brooder changes daily now.... But they let you know what they need, they cry when the brooder, water or food dish is dirty... But they are lovely and I'm crazy enough to do it over and over... Just maybe not inside.
A better bigger brooder set up would really help.... Oh and they fire the poops out.... Like at the brooder walls... Or in my case through the mesh of the playpen....
Bath time after math
400

Keep in mind they showered after the bath....
But good eggs, good meat, good pets.
