Thanks 'dude!!!! No disclaimer needed. I trust you.
It's the PO people i question. lol the marans came for Easter HAL beautifully packaged & couldn't ask for better hardly. But I think they got cold out on the truck. They weren't shipped too far I could have went and got them in less than a 4hour drive but gas would have been awful. But it still took them 3 days. Now I wouldn't mind a trip to skipperville, but again gas, you know. ;)  Now I have to set up a spot for the broody. She changed nest boxes twice today!:barnie

Come on down anytime.

My son lives in Louisville and I avoid the area on Derby weekend.....the crowds are crazy!

I was born with the love of all things horse. I tell my DH you are either a horse person or you're not, it is in your blood.  I read every horse book I could get my hands on as a kid and couldn't wait to get my own. I blame credit Walter Farley with my love of horse racing, both kinds.  I have some harness racing in my past...even drove in a couple of races at southern Illinois county fairs. I got my chickens when my two horses went to a home with two daughters in 4-H.  Love my chickens but still miss burying my face in a mane........

Walter Farley wrote excellent books. The ones his son (?) Wrote were OK.I have wf books as a hand me down, so those must be 40+ years old

In other news, my broody did not try to escape today when I checked her water. Didn't want to lift her though to check for her own eggs.still thinking 7 eggs could be too much.

I blame all horse related shows, movies, and books on my love. I've always loved horses of all sorts. I got my first real chance at them in high school when I could join a program called equine science. That's where I got into the standardbreds. I'd ridden and groomed and messed with tons of horses before but not on a daily basis. I'd even go in on Saturday and Sunday to work in the barn cause I wanted to. Lol, and I hated school.

My second mare was a Standardbred.... OH my goodness she could trot... only one on the ranch that could beat her was a Big gelding named Hoss. his Tatto on his lip said he was a winner on the track and his Registered name was Tappy something.

I got a chance to swap horses with his owner one time on the trail. I had heard that track horses are taught to run faster with more pressure on the reins... so I kicked him up.... By the time he was full speed my mare was galloping... and he loved it. I still get goosebumps about that ride. His feet were flying so high behind him that I could see the soles of his feet.

That was probably about seven years before I learned how to drive a horse in harness. and I have never ridden in a sulkey.... Crazy flimsy contraptions....

back in the late sixties early Seventies we had a harness racing season here in San Diego. I suspect those horses came from there for what ever reason.
