I just can't believe that happened and there is no trace of squished or dead chick's or anything. I felt like something was wrong when they got shipped Friday. Most seem OK tonight. 1 is acting goofy, figure it might perish by tomorrow.

Not sure about bamas vacation
It's a big bureaucratic thing with the eggs, it has nothing to do with the Heath of the consumer... It's about keeping tabs on supply and demand... Funny thing is, its legal on Vancouver island for restaurants and grocery/Heath food stores to retail local farm eggs from small scale places who don't hold egg shares... I have some reading to do... Got to get this bs changed.

@hennible , It is almost impossible for the average person to sell eggs from their backyard to any grocery store around here. You have to have permits, inspections, file taxes on it and all kinds of mumbo jumbo. It's ridiculous. So, most people just sell from their own front door. Ohio also has stupid laws that you cannot advertise "Fresh eggs", "Farm eggs", "Brown eggs" or anything of the like. The sign is only allowed to say "Eggs for sale". People break that law everywhere here though. Hopefully the police have better things to do, like controlling drug trafficking (tons of heroine overdoses around here at spiking rates in the past couple years) and hopefully the police will overlook these minor details of us little farms just trying to recoup some funds to feed our critters.

Here in NM -- especially the ag village I live in -- eggs are available at the farmers market, the feedstore, the gas station, just about any business establishment.. What's funny is the one regulation required is the one nobody follows: The carton is supposed to say "Unclassified Ungraded Eggs" to protect both the consumer and seller (and also to state something about proper storage temps). Most sellers just plop them into whatever used egg carton from the supermarket they have handy....except for Yours Truly who actually read the regs and purchased a bunch of cartons with the right stuff on it. Educating the folks about it will result in they'll either label me an instigator or look at me like I'm some bothersome egg nerd. Someday the Egg Police will roll on through and I'll just be sitting pretty. Until then, oh well.....

On my way to the 'main' road I can count three signs, "Fresh eggs for sale" hit he main road I bet I count a couple more. I don't think there is any laws on selling eggs here unless you do it commercially. Give them time though, they love coming up with new laws if it looks like it will give them some revenue $....

Work absolutely sucked today, I usually sit on my butt now and push a couple buttons on a HMI screen, not easy today, I think someone probably got fired over it, whole vat of cheese ended up in the whey silo instead of cups for sale. I was on a dead run all day, and sceered! , my room does not run well on anything but straight whey, crushed filters that cost more then I make in a week! Many of them! Loaded many trucks with crap and ran another room that wasn't working right but I couldn't pay attention to it because I was so busy! I don't think I have any hair left on my head! I guess,
Good now though, its warm and drunk outside, the best tension reliever! Woohoo!

Such cartons can be found on the major egg carton vendor site under their "printed cartons" section. It's the one that says it's New Mexico compliant or some such.

I forgot about the carton regulations. That's something I don't follow here. I "recycle" cartons. You can buy them at the feed store, just plain cartons for 25cents.

I have a busy morning

Work on house this morning. Also taking little girl to breakfast before school and taking tadpoles for the kids to see. Then go to work. Pick up tadpoles on my lunch, back to work. Plus have TONS to do at home. The chicks in the laundry room stink. When I walked in there this morning the smell was like

I got some of my email messages this morning. Had to back track a bit, but better than nothing. You all have a good day. Gotta get busy.
