Backyard flock keepers wouldn't discover it as easily either. The signs can be quite subtle, but with 50000 birds you pretty quickly notice a mortality rate change, and I bet they do a lot more testing too. And the population density in a commercial operation is so much higher that once it gets in, it spreads quickly.

ops so sorry @RavynFallen
think I totally passed out and only just woke up hihi to you also :)

All good, I keep missing posts for some reason... don't know if it's BYC or my phone but it doesn't show all the posts in the threads... I keep backtracking and finding new ones that've been posted for hrs... :/

@hennible she is a gorgeous hen! My Araucana's have that dark face/comb too, I love it... need to get some pics and post them...

As to the AI, I dunno... I think minihorse927 might be onto something... can't say they are doing it on purpose, but hatcheries send out in such huge quantities, how can they tell if their stock was infected before or after they sent out a huge set of orders? I think most backyarders would notice if their birds just started dropping dead tho... they say the mortality rate is high so think that'd be a big red flag... but unfortunately there are so many that will hide those types of things and unethically just pass the sick birds off on someone else... idk, just thinking here...
