Dixie Chicks

With this nice weather our kale is still growing, the stuff is awesome. Froze and droopy in the morning, up and nice and green by the afternoon.
Moved the coop and run the other day. They attacked the new bed of kale, that's ok though planted it for them, there's more in the other bed than we can eat of big stuff, everything I've cut is growing back in the middle of Dec!

And back in clearing and fertilizing another 14x50 area. They're not working as fast as I thought they would, but if this weather keeps up they'll still have a 100x100 feet cleared by planting time.

Jembo! Long time, no see. What's cracking?

Mini, whoa, he's huge! (Pronounced with your wannabe future president's accent)

We lost the runt, it had been discarded outside the nest. The remaining 7 are looking strong and fat though. Couple of weeks and they'll be like that big fellar in the pic.

We've had similar weather. Teens at night 40-50 daytime. Last yr we had already had weeks of below zero by now so I'm not complaining even though the deer hunting has sucked.
mmm venison

we had an acquaintance drive by and toss a dead deer on our doorstep :drool

Yep!! He had gutted it too!

We just skinned it, hung it for a few days, then cut it up how we like.

I SO HOPE he decides to do it again. He does owe us a bunch of money, so he might.

Tenderized

Down in Texas that is what we consider our roadkill
I've only eaten road kill once.
I was living in the mtns of CO. I turned onto a road to collect a check from a client, 5 min later there was a dead deer that had just been hit. I loaded into the pickup and drove to a friends house who I knew would know how to deal with it.
Within 5 minutes, she had it strung up hanging from her kids swing set, and was skinning and gutting it.

When it was reletively parted out, she asked what I wanted to do with it. I told her I had a smoker and being as I had little freezer space, I just opted to make jerky.
She was really mad that I wanted to jerk the tenderloin as well, but I did, it was my dog gone deer!
I spent the next 2 or 3 days cutting it up and smoking it.

I split the whole thing with her. She offered to let me store it in her auxillary fridge.

Every time I came to visit, it seemed her four children were always on the sofa munching jerky.

At one point I went to the fridge to get some out of my stash.
Can you guess it?

Yeah, it was all gone, I barely got a bag of it.

Oh well.
