Saddest story ever!!!!!!!!
I wasn't too crazy about the whole thing. But what the heck, I guess I helped a family that was kind of down and out, with a coke addict Dad.

Every time I make jerky I have to either hide some or make some HOT, or I don't get any. Five kids scarfing it up like candy, the youngest ones are the worst culprits...

It was nice she did the initial processing of the deer. Maybe look at it as they needed the jerky more than you.... Feeding all those hungry mouths, you know.

The deer was a gift when you got it, so you paid it forward.

I've never had jerky. Nowadays you can get it at the store, but at 7 euros for a tiny bag I haven't had a need to try it yet. Maybe I should. I haven't seen anything else than beef jerky in different flavors though.

Jerkey is just a way to preserve meat. you can take any lean meat and make jerkey out of it with the excption of chicken.

Sliced thin about a eight or a quarter of an inch thick. with the muscle not accross. I just salt the heck out of it and pepper it and lay it right on the rack in the oven. Then set the oven on warm and leave it for about twelve hours...

Historically the way our pioneers used it was to pull it out of the bag and cut it up into bite sized chunks and make stew out of it. Dried beans Homony and what ever other herbs could be gathered.

Sort of like salt cod but without all that salt.
