Dixie Chicks

Anyone do preserves ? canning of any kind , old world , something new , veggies , meats jambs ??
I make a Cantaloupe jamb when they are in season and ripe ........which is hard to find in the stores as they seem to all be picked green ?

I call it liquid gold because if done correctly it's as sweet as honey , enough sugar content with the added amount , but o so sweet and great on your morning toast . Would like to see and maybe get some recipes for some other new ideas

omgosh that sounds delish I did some canning a couple months ago... did some apple/blackberry jam..and some blackberry jam, some apple sauce and apple pie filling

I never even thought of canning melon.. I think it's an awesome idea... and just what I would need for deep winter for a taste of fruity goodness.. I kinda imagine it can be very watery though?

HAHA!

Actually, I am sitting on the couch, curled into a ball, under a thick fuzzy blanket, wearing my long coat (kinda like a cowboy duster). My hands aren't too cold though. Typing is going OK.

I did just have to answer the door though... and wondered if they thought that it was funny that I answered the door wearing a coat.

I used to can,

I canned salsa, tomatoes, made jelly, and pickles....

That was years ago though.... as an adult I have only done Salsa and pickles....

and at this point I only do refrigerator pickles.... so no canning

We have a short growing season here, never tried growing watermelon or cantaloupe until a couple yrs ago. The watermelon was something like sugar baby, small but sweet and yummy and I don't like watermelon usually. I love cantaloupe, I can't remember what the name of the cantaloupe was small, about the size of softballs, homegrown ones are definitely better than store bought, they have aroma, smell yummy even before you cut them open. So sweet and juicy store bought doesn't compare. Maybe it helped I grew them in bunny poop. Never heard of melon jam, havta try it.
