Dixie Chicks

Morning! Hmmmm, horseradish? Sounds interesting. Coffee is cooking. I need it this morning

Has anyone purchased chicks from hatcheries by way of mail? It looks like I am going to have to do that to get the breeds I want this year. I am trying to find a hatchery that sells cockrells and pullets-that are not de beaked! I want some English Cuckoo Marans, Speckled Sussex (last time I am trying this breed), Black cooper French marans, blue cooper French marans, and more. I just can't think this early. I am still watching for local breeders.

@Beer can , Those potatoes sound good, but thinking the salt is not the healthiest for me. The best potatoes around here are sold at the county fairs. Skin on French fries with malt vinegar. Also not the healthiest choice for me.

@BriardChickens I have heard of the T90 work outs. Do they use weights during the workouts or is it cardio based? How long is your typical class?

The only way hatcheries will debeak is if you pay for it... and not all hatcheries offer that as an option. All feed store chicks are from hatcheries.

And I did order from a hatchery mail order but had the feed store place it so they could pick them up for me.

I have ordered Guinea Keets from a Breeder in Northern Caliofrnia... and she shipped em by post office and I picked them up at the Post office. The whole box smelled of Watermellon... They had been two days on the road and were Stuffed with watermellon. So cute.

So, does anyone have a rooster who gives special treatment to a certain hen? Our roo of course overmates his favorite, who also happens to be his sister, but one thing that is pretty endearing is that every time she goes to lay, he stands guard outside of the nest box, waiting for her to finish.
Oh yes. I had a pair of NH's in a mixed flock of other breeds. Those two always hung together even if she wasn't laying though too....I think "Birds of a Feather" really is such a thing. We always said they were "Best friends" She laid her first egg in the coop (with a closed door) to give her privacy and he was nuts outside the coop. Bock bocking his head off. After she laid he came roaring in and wouldn't leave her side. Even took a lower roost with her that night instead of his usual highest one.

Roosters are very gallant. All part of the seduction.... LOL.

We will give him a bowl of grapes and he gifts them ALL!

I actually liked my Sussex. I thought that they were very curious and entertaining. They were the ones most likely to find a way out of the coop....... so trouble in that regard, but not bullies.
