Do I have to use Hardware Cloth on the run?

I don't understand the idea of using the HWC for the first few feet and then switching to bigger fencing.

To save money......and eliminate 'reach thrus' by raccoons.
In my case I did it to keep tiny chicks in and contain deep litter.

I don't understand the idea of using the HWC for the first few feet and then switching to bigger fencing. Wouldn't anything that can't fit through the HWC, but can fit through the other fencing just climb up to the other fencing? What am I missing? Also, if you are buying 100' roles of HWC, I don't think you can beat https://www.critterfence.com/metal-fence-rolls They have it heights up to 8' as well, which I think is awesome.

Yup. That's why I'm changing to HWC. Live and learn.
