I will say amen to the absolute BS that is "I can't go out to eat every night." In a normal year I'm lucky if I go out to eat 3 times. And these people wonder why they can't make ends meet.

Reading this thread makes me glad that I live and work where I do. I'm at a very small rural college and we're all about local foods. Everyone here buys local organic stuff from small family farms. Except me... I can't afford it and have to raise my own
Ditto, I'm 26 as well, and I am one of those people who brags that my husband cooks, but he cooks with ME! Every night! I must admit that I am not a very good cook, but he is teaching me, and I'm learning fast.
I grow all my veggies in the summer, I can (pickles and tomatos so far), and I am learning how to make as many things from scratch as possible. Granola is my hands-down favorite! I'm going to learn to make mozzarella next. I love living in the city though, because I got rid of my car and am trying to find everything locally, that I can walk to or ride bike. Not much space for the chicks, though they don't complain.
Don't knock going out to eat though. We don't go out to dinner, but we try to frequent a cafe near us as often as possible for breakfast. We usually go every other week, but the owner grows her own veggies and fruit, uses her own eggs (and soon bacon!), has her own bakery, uses all organic food, and buys other stuff fresh from the farmers market down the street. We save our money just so that we can support her whenever possible.
Here's a plug for her
