Do you know people grossed out by fresh eggs?

I just boiled eggs using the method in that thread, and it really works

When my middle child was 3 she was looking at some eggs with her dad and she turns to him and asked:

Gracie -- "Daddy, where do we get eggs from?"
Daddy -- "A chickens butt!"
Gracie -- *First, she gets this look on her face

and says in a really really stunned voice* "And you mean...We cook 'em and EAT 'em???!!!"
Daddy -- "Yep"
Gracie -- "That's crazy"
Mommy --

LOL I almost fell out laughing so hard when she said this! Of course she is and was fine with it by the next morning for breakfast

My brother is really sensitive like that, and when he was about 10 he was eating eggs, and we always ate all the white first, and then popped the whole yolk (sunny-side-up) into our mouth. Well, he popped the yolk into his mouth and my dad says, "So, how does that baby bird embryo taste?" My brother promptly ran out of the kitchen and into the bathroom. He still ate eggs after that, but I don't think he ever ate the yolk whole again.

This 26-year old bakes, cooks, gardens, tans, raises peeps (now), logs, and makes cheese.

I will say amen to the absolute BS that is "I can't go out to eat every night." In a normal year I'm lucky if I go out to eat 3 times. And these people wonder why they can't make ends meet.

...

Reading this thread makes me glad that I live and work where I do. I'm at a very small rural college and we're all about local foods. Everyone here buys local organic stuff from small family farms. Except me... I can't afford it and have to raise my own

Ditto, I'm 26 as well, and I am one of those people who brags that my husband cooks, but he cooks with ME! Every night! I must admit that I am not a very good cook, but he is teaching me, and I'm learning fast.

I grow all my veggies in the summer, I can (pickles and tomatos so far), and I am learning how to make as many things from scratch as possible. Granola is my hands-down favorite! I'm going to learn to make mozzarella next. I love living in the city though, because I got rid of my car and am trying to find everything locally, that I can walk to or ride bike. Not much space for the chicks, though they don't complain.

Don't knock going out to eat though. We don't go out to dinner, but we try to frequent a cafe near us as often as possible for breakfast. We usually go every other week, but the owner grows her own veggies and fruit, uses her own eggs (and soon bacon!), has her own bakery, uses all organic food, and buys other stuff fresh from the farmers market down the street. We save our money just so that we can support her whenever possible.

Here's a plug for her

Everyone knows these things:

1. All store bought eggs are delivered by C section. If the egg came out of the butt no one would eat it.

2. All store bought eggs start out black, then they put them in the sun to get them brown, then soak them in bleach for 21 days to get them white. ( DUH )

3. Chickens have to have at least a picture of a rooster in the coop or they will not lay.

4. Marsmallow PEEPS sold around Easter are made by dipping day old vent sexed roos from a hatchery in marsmallow creme, then refrigerated.

5. Tyson Foods has developed a headless, featherless, entrailess chicken that is going to take the place of the Cornish X's.

Pretty smart huh?
