Do you know people grossed out by fresh eggs?

ROFL! I bet she told some of the girls in her school about the chickens and they got "grossed out" at the thought of her eating the eggs. She will be down to the bottom ot the pecking order if they find out she ate brown, possibly fertile natural eggs! Can't have that!

I defenitly agree, anytime someone finds out I have chickens, its like do the roosters fertilize the egg after it is laid.... if you have a rooster will their be chicks in the eggs..... if your rooster dies will you not have eggs.... and so on and so fourth

When I told my DD about this thread, she rolled her eyes and jokingly said, "There's this magic hole that opens up and the eggs just DROP out of it!"

I must admit, I was a little wary of using the "chooks bum" eggs. Of course, I knew that all eggs come from chooks bums, but buying the shop bought ones removed that mental link. However, I would never ever go back to shop bought eggs (once I use up the eggs that the butcher gave me because I bought a certain amount of meat - I guess I'll have to make cakes with those).

My poached fresh eggs are just like restaurant ones. They really hold together well. I used to have problems getting my eggs to look like they do at the local cafe, and have realised that it is because I was using old eggs (shop bought "fresh" ones).

Our chooks have only been laying for about a month and we have only been getting 4 a day (4 chooks of laying age) for about 3 days, so haven't had heaps of new eggs yet. But my dd, who is 11 has taken to making herself an omelette for afternoon tea when she gets home from school. She loves them, and they are so healthy for her. Much better than cake or chips.

I just love the fact that they are turning kitchen scraps and weeds into eggs. How clever is that?

Thats so odd, people in our area just can't get enough of our eggs, we're almost always sold out and now we have to lie to newer customers so our old customers get some eggs! One of our customers' wife refuses to eat any storebought eggs now, so when they run out....they just run out until we have eggs again LOL.

My massage lady, who normally is thrilled with all my ventures into vegetables and herbs and beekeeping, asked if I didn't feel funny "eating eggs that came from someone you know." I told her it made them more special! She then admitted she'd have a problem eating eggs from a chicken that she actually had met. Go figure.

This topic reminds me of the guy who told me about a conversation he overheard in the market one day: "Those farmers are just greedy. What do we need farmers for, anyway? My wife can get everything she needs right here in the supermarket!"

It just amazes me how clueless some people are and how cutoff from our food supply we really are. Where do they think eggs come from? I've heard stories about people not wanting to eat vegetables that had once touched dirt and kids that go to the county fair and don't know the difference between a cow and a pig.

Interesting to see this is pretty common! I, too, get the statement all the time, "your kidding! They can lay eggs without a rooster??" Well, I have no roo, and I got eggs! Thankfully I have not been asked "what hole" the eggs come out of yet....yes...it's the same hole....and many people would be grossed out by that!

But when I said "eggs are eggs," I meant they come from the same place. A hen's rear end. But like many of you have said...so many people don't seem to realize that when they buy store bought eggs, they aren't "made" in the store! I have given up on trying to convince them. But I loved the post from the person who said leave fresh eggs sit for two months, and then you got store bought eggs. That's good!

Yeah...the shell thing...I forgot to say something about that! Our first flock of chickens were leghorns....white eggs. Like the store bought eggs we used to have. After we gave away the leghorns, I was grossed out by store bought eggs, so a friend of mine was supplying us with some extras of hers. Brown eggs (and our hens will give us brown eggs) My son, who was 6 at the time, refused to eat the eggs at first...because the shell was brown! So I just tricked him one day, gave him bacon and eggs for breakfast, but told him the eggs were white shelled, and after he ate them, I showed him the shells. He has eaten brown eggs ever since! But my coworkers are not only grossed out by fresh eggs, they are grossed out by brown ones as well!
