Do you remember your childs first word?

I'm not sure about my son's first word, but I remember his first swear word. It was an expletive that I used entirely too much. Needless to say, I cleaned up my act in a big hurry much to my wife's delight.

This is the truth....my daughter was about 7 months old and I was holding her outside. She looked up to the sky, pointed her finger upward and said "See tha plane". I just about dropped her. she immediately started talking in pretty much short full sentences.

Chipper's first word was "bye-bye" after he crawled to the door and made a baby wave at someone. Pretty distinctive communication. That same evening he took his first independent steps--we were in the living room, and I was sitting on the floor a bit away from him. He had been cruising on the coffee table or sofa, and apparently decided to come to me--and took two or three steps rather than getting down and crawling. He was 6 1/2 months old. Dh was out of town on a business trip and did not believe me when I told him. Of course he saw it for himself a couple of days later.

Robert's first recognisable word was duck, but I had to look it up just now

, and didn't write down the date or his age

What both DH and I do remember about him from when he was very little was him saying over and over "happy! happy! happy!"

Oldtimegator, that is so funny, I didn't see your post until after I posted mine! I do believe you. Precocious kids are something--they sure keep you on your toes. Chip's first sentence was "go ball" as he reached up to grab the door handle and try to go out the front door. He had put on a baseball cap and carried a stuffed "baseball." I remember the event, but had to look up his age for this one: 14 months.

My son and daughter-in-law adopted a little girl from China. I will never forget the day she rested her head on my wife's lap and said "happy." Brought tears to this old man's eyes. She has grown to be a very deep, sensitive, thoughtful child. Yeah, we love her a great deal.
