I'm proud of you, too, J. I wish I had gotten the urge to have chickens when my sons were growing up, but it wasn't even a blip on my radar then. Boy, we sure do get smarter as we age, dont we, LOL? Jordan just got the jump on most guys his age in the smarts department.

The people at my work sometimes say stupid things, but I am meaner than they are so they regret it. I just let them know that when they have something intelligent to say, I'll listen. I'm a stockbroker. We have to have thick skin and be aggressive.

I also get flack from some of my co-workers, but I really think they are secretly fascinated by all the animals I keep.

Yesterday I had some chicks waiting to be picked up and brought one inside, and EVERYONE had to pet it. LOL

Hey Cheeptrick. I am sorry for you that there are those kind of people to deal with at your job. I am from West Virginia. We have real thick skin here. We have too or we'd all go up for murder. Unless they are feeding your chickens, cleaning up after them, taking care of them or buying the feed it is absolutely none of thier business. Try reading a good book on sarcasm. That gets them every time. I just hate the look people give me when they find out that I married my cousin and she has no front teeth, our kids have six fingers and we have to pull on boots and trudge 50 yards through the snow to visit the restoom. Hang in there!!!!!!!!

Actually most people here are amazed and fascinated; they didn't think it was legal to keep chickens and it just didn't occur to them. I'm also amazed at how many people think you have to have a rooster to have eggs. (hee hee..city folk)

The rest of the time people think its awesome! They love that I can get fresh eggs, and they know that the manure is great for the garden.

My friends would sometimes tease me about it. Most of my family has chickens so if they make fun of me they're making fun of themselves, too. haha. but sometimes my friends will call me chicken coop, or the crazy chicken lady. hey it's an addiction what can I say

. I don't take it offensivly, they just don't get any fresh eggs, or play with the little chicks

Some people are just jealous because they see how passionate we are about something.

I tell some of them why have a parrot or a rabbit when you can have a chicken?

If they say chickens are dirty, smelly, and "beneath" them, I say, "Compared to some of the people I know, I'll stick with my chickens!"
