Does anybody get FLACK from Family and Friends for having Chickens?

This is still going eh!

Well...I guess I'll update you all. Walking thru my bosses house and what do I see??

A beautiful Antique monochromatic oval picture...of a young woman sitting in the grass with baby chicks all around her.

Great Grand Mother raised chickens and actually loved them enough to have a monochromatic HAND painted and mounted in an OVAL frame! Which they proudly have hanging over their couch.

It was a lovely portrait truly!!

Don't think they thought it was too lovely when I pointed out that they had 'crazy' chicken people IN THEIR family!

Quick story- one of my employees made the comment "I think it is pretty funny that you raise chickens" but of course couldn't say any really good reasons why it was "funny". So after a couple minutes entertaining the usual questions, the last question that I was waiting for came out "Do you ever give away any extra eggs?"
I guess at $2.00 a dozen at the store, it's not so funny anymore.

My 17 year old thinks im nuts getting SOOO into it but hes getting into picking out what to get. My mom is into organics because she has cancer so she's looking forward to the eggs. My boyfriend rolls his eyes but then tells me how to do things (hes away) and forgets Im the one who grew up on a farm.

First of all, people who say they are dirty don't have enough knowledge to make that claim. People think it is odd because we have become disconnected from where our food comes from. Not long ago everybody had "victory gardens" and a lot of people had chickens, even in the cities. Just talk to some depression era folks. Everyone who comes to our place is really fascinated in the chickens and wants to learn about them. My concern over a boss that would humiliate you over this (or anything for that matter) Sounds like a bully. I would look for a different boss to work for, this guy is disrespectful to you. I have had bosses in the past harrass me (back before they could get sued for it), throw things, slam doors off the hinges etc. I do not tolerate any of that stuff anymore. I will only work in environments where everyone respects each other.

Yes, friends and family members always make comments about my hobby. However, my sister now has six hens......She loves watching the chickens in the back yard....She likes the eggs.....She likes how they control the bug population and weeds too......It is funny....
She was my main critic ten years ago.

Good luck with your folk

That sort of behavior falls under "harrassment", which is just an euphamism for "bullying". I'll bet there are guidelines for procedures to follow about this in an employee handbook, or somewhere else like your state statutes if your place of employment doesn't have one.

This has been quite the read-from hilarious to infuriating to sad. I'm in luck, no one says anything but good. My MIL is going in on a chick order with me, and my mom loves to get free eggs.

I used to be called the crazy cat lady becaue I was a single Mom with ALOT of cats. Then I met the man of our dreams (my son loves him too!) and he moved me to the country. Now I can have ALL the cats, dogs and Chickens I want. We just bought our first "flock". On the way home I was holding the box on my lap and naming them! I looked over at my husband and he had that whole "oh no what have I done " look on his face! I said " whats the matter did you just realize you bought me 12 more pets!?" So now I am not just the crazy cat lady, I am just crazy!! Also about those people that say chickens are dirty and gross, let me tell you what happened to my husband. He offered his best friends girlfriend some FREE eggs when the time comes. She actually said no thanks real chickens poop on their eggs! Where does she think grocery store eggs come from? Fake chickens that have no poop!!?? Besides I would clean them first duh!!!!
