Dog attack - lost turkeys & ducks - Update pg 8

Have you noticed the remaining animals being a bit shy or even fearful after the incident?
One of our ducks was lost to a Great Horned Owl early last week and the remaining ducks have been real leary of us since. They used to come running/flying when we would go outside to feed and wouldn't hesitate to eat out of our hands. Now they won't come within 6 feet of us. Today I noticed they were a little less shy but sure not the same as they were.

The remaining ducks - not so much - but the two turkey hens - jump at every little noise and won't even come close to eat.

UPDATE:
GOOD NEWS (I hope)

I seen our next door neighbor going into his property today, he doesn't live there just yet but is always in and out. I asked him if he saw anything Sat. He said he did --
It was Sat morning and he saw a dog ( described Husky to a T even the type of collar it had on) with one of my ducks down by his place, which is a ways from our house. He said that he had to beat the dog off of my poor duck. The dog took off and the duck ran under his truck. He said he knew that it was my duck b/c of the leg band (one of my ducks camped out on his pond for a while before) and it was super friendly. Anyway the duck ran under his truck and he had to get a fishing pole to prod the duck out from under his truck. He said it wasn't tore up but prob in shock.

He said that next time he would shoot the dog. Anyway he said that he would be more than happy to go to court and testify.

Hubby talked to prosecutor today and they told us to write a certified letter giving her a chance to pay the original sum that we quoted her. She will have 15 days after that to reply and then if she doesn't we take her to court for a MUCH higher - including the extra income - I got from selling their eggs.

We are gonna fight this all the way.

Small claims court really isn't very hard to win, IMO. And in a non-criminal case all you need is the "greater weight of the evidence" instead of beyond a doubt.
Testimony from this guy, especially if he can even describe the dog's collar and your duck's leg band - wowza! You should be set!

Good to hear about Denozo is fighting too!

I have my fingers crossed for you, Amanda and hope that Denozo continues to improve. Sounds like you are headed in the right direction

I'm so glad to hear that Denozo is coming around too. Hopefully by fall he'll be fully feathered out again.

Well it has been a week and Denozo is still doing great

I let him out (while I am at home all day to keep and eye on him) and he is walking around and back to picking on the chickens from time to time.

This use to aggravate me but now I am glad to see him getting back to his old self.

Yesterday when it was time for everyone to go to bed - he tried to get on the back porch and roost. He managed to flop up onto the railing, I know it took the poor guy a while to get up there but I wasn't about to let him sleep out in the open. He used to roost high up on one of my pens but he can't get up there now.

Anyway I shooed him down and walked him back to his pen.

Just want to add in that with the help of a fellow BYCer
