Dog thread!🐾

Think a Beauceron could do Schutzhund? I know some do, but it just isn't common (of course, the breed isn't that common either) That is one of the reasons why I prefer Dobermans to them. I want to compete in Schutzhund.
I guess it would really depend on how much you work with them. They are known to be very attached to their owners so I think it's very much possible

I was at the vet one day and one of the ladies asked me if I wanted a dog that needed a home. I knew I couldn't but I asked what breed anyways. The lady started laughing when she saw my face when she said Chihuahua.
My best dog was half Chihuahua. It's in how they are raised and handled. They also need structure and training. Many people skip over that part when they get one. I think they have special powers over people. You can't resist.

I 100% agree with that. People think they don't need to train little dogs because they can't do any harm. They are good dogs just raised poorly.

Does anyone ever used them for herding anymore. Even Rottweiler were used for herding once upon a time. I wonder how they decided what group to put them in when the working group split into working and herding.

I’ve seen a few that can. Definitely more rare to find these days, as they’ve transitioned to protection sports, and conformation of course. Unfortunate if you ask me, but I’m not involved in those breeds for my opinion to be an informed and/or valuable one

I think there's also a lot of influence in their breeding too.
My family has owned a number of chihuahuas and even bred a few. There was such a MASSIVE range of personalities etc.
I also pet sat for a chihuahua breeder once, very quickly decided I was never going back there. I believe that was the first time I ever received a genuinely aggressive bite from a dog.
I think when it comes to Chi's not enough care is put into breeding suitable temperaments. Their behaviour is excused too much to the point dogs are being bred that should not be bred.

This was our border collie Brett. First dog my husband and I bought together. Drove up to Rhinelander to get her. She was from good stock and was a great dog. My attempts at training her for herding weren't the best, but she got the job done. Loved her brown eyes.

Gosh, I love border collies. Definitely not for me though.

She’s gorgeous. Her amber eyes are so striking against her black coat
