Dog thread!🐾

Not hair cuts. Brushing/ combing. They need to have the thick, woolly undercoat that keeps them warm and dry in winter brushed out, leaving the long overcoat, or guard hairs, as insulation and shade from the sun in the summer.
Amazing how many people don't understand how important the dog's coat is.
Protection from predators is another.

Yes, he's a mess. He didn't start out to be but our Gracie was a barker so he picked it up from her and they both just stimulated each other. Since she died, he's gotten a lot better, and especially since this Golden we got is practically silent, he's really settled down. I always go SHH! at him and if he doesn't stop I shake an empty plastic bottle at him with a handful of beans in it, and if THAT doen't calm him down, I throw it at him. It startles him and distracts him from what he's barking at and he really doesn't like it, so often just the SHHH! works bc he knows what's coming.

They seem to consider themselves the Town Crier and Local Announcer of All Things Interesting or Unusual. It can be helpful, as in when he lets me know the oven beeped and I didn't hear it. He's practically a Hearing Aid Dog except that he barks at things that don't matter, like walnuts falling on the carport roof, lol.

He's also a tattle-tale. He HATES it when any of the other animals go into our GSon's bedroom where I feed him, and he'll come running out YELLING if they do and insist that I go put a stop to it immediately. He cracks me up sometimes.
Thanks for all the info! Very interesting and helpful. He sounds funny!

Herding dogs are a lot of work. Rewarding, but they're time consuming for probably the first five years. After that they settle into routine better and gain some patience.
Sporting breeds are great. Teach them the basics and throw the ball a bunch!
Aussies like a lot of ball throwing too!
Very important to socialize Aussies so that they can learn that most dogs aren't predators.
Thanks! Very helpful

So it was normal for me to be highly confused why they got a schnauzer 😅
I find that channel really weird.
Its one of the worst breeds they could get! Last video I saw they where considering getting another :hit because they found out they actually have packs of coyotes around! We will fixes this by getting another dog that is not built for fighting coyotes that sounds safe for the dogs!

I also don’t think their trainer works with actual working dogs, why wait until the dog is 2 before scent training it!?
Remember that time their goats gead got stuck in the fence?
I haven’t actually watched any of their videos other then 2 dog ones. I have yet to find any homesteading youtuber families that I like at all
I can‘t remember 😆
I don't want to be the first to say it just in case I'm think9ng of the wrong one:oops:
I hope there aren't more people getting giant schnauzer for that reason!
I don't actually watch their videos, my sister does so sometimes I'll take a look or listen but I am just not a fan really.
I will say goats do have a skill for getting their heads stuck, especially if they've got horns!

Weed 'em and Reap, or something along those lines...
I think that was it!

I think Pikelets going to wash out of assistance dog training ☹️ we went out yesterday to a garden centre thats near by. It has 3 different rooms first room is large, Pikelet was fine she was really confident which is a huge improvement from when we first took her there!

Then next room is a very small darkish room with the dog stuff in it. It leads to the next room thats as big as the first one. They had stands with advertisement screen thing’s playing right by the door way to the next room. Pikelet got scared of something and kept running away from the entrance we tried to get her through a few times and she kept running back to hide in the dog area, so I tried going back in the first room, she was better but still nervous!

we went back final got her past the screens that was what we thought the issue was! And she was still nervous tried walking around a bit with lots of treats (she was getting a lot of them the entire time) she got a bit better but still nervous! We went outside she was very nervous when we went out but she did get better again but still not confident puppy 🙁.

We drove a bit to a area outside that she had been to before, she was scared of the duck, the road and someone on a bench! We ended up leaving again, we took her to a small park she was still a bit nervous in the park but she did eventually calm down there

we are going to try a few things and see how she does but I think she has all ready washed out 😕. My mother does not want to rehome her at all, I don’t really either :hitbut I do need a spare AD

Komondors don't get a brush put on them after the cording process begins. That would just ruin the cords

Thank you Fluffy! The only bit of hope is if it was a once of thing 🙁

Because I like planning ahead for every situation, it helps me to stress less! What breed would I get to be a spare if she does wash out

-Needs to be about springer size ( hight matters more then weight)
-Medium to high energy
-Can be off leash
-Not too unpredictable with cats
-Not very dog selective
-The less shedding the better!
-Not sure about grooming needs Because I am a bit sad about probably losing the fluffy dog soonish
