Dog up the road and the loss of a JG

And now this morning when I was at work I got a call from my daughter who was standing at the bus stop which is at the end of the dirt road and the dog came through the woods barking at her and chased her across the paved road. I know the barking had to be at a high-level because my daughter is not often scared of a barking dog which concerns me sometimes. So for her to be scared of it I know it had to be loud. She said she heard the owner calling it back but the dog would not listen

Hotwire is relatively cheap and very effective. Needs to be considered as this will not be just about one dog. OP can train her dogs and kids how to operate around hotwire.
We are looking at the pricing for electric fence with this solar power since we have no power outlets outside of the house. We were just looking for something in the meantime. I called animal control a few minutes ago so I could find out the exact laws in fines for the county so maybe if I threatened them with these things that can put it to an end. Just like when their kid was tearing up our dirt road with his four wheeler and they didn’t want to do anything about it I let them know that technically the dirt road is private property and I can have the police come remove him since it’s considered trespassing. Apparently that spoke to them and it stopped

These people have been a headache for years. The dog has actually returned twice since I last posted and had someone drive to our house from a Nother dirt road that is off of the paved road to see if it was our dog because they’ve seen it running along the paved road and we have a white dog. It wasn’t our dog because we have trained our dogs to stay in the property line and they are not ever outside without us out there or without us checking on them every 5 to 10 minutes. Even when they’re chasing a squirrel They don’t leave the property. It took lots of time and effort to train them but that’s what we do when we have dogs. And the fact that this is a continuous thing is the terrible part
Can you use a sling shot/catapult Rachel?
I don’t know if you’re a gun user. Some people are reluctant to kill the dog. I can’t blame the people who shoot them.
I have a stray/uncontrolled dog problem here, I think we mentioned it in another thread. People come to the park and just let their dogs run loose.
There are lots of farms and smallholdings in the park and many have trained dogs that head any intruders off.
I keep a slingshot in my pocket with a few balls. I got quite good with it when I was kid. A powerful sling shot will kill a dog at close range but at a distance it gives them an awful sore bum.
Just a thought.

And it’s a good thought. I’m not opposed to a gun when it comes to a raccoon or possum we’ve had to take out those with a gun because of our chickens but I cannot bring myself to shoot a dog. I can’t blame the dog. It’s just being a dog. But I 100% blame the owners for knowing this is happening and not doing a thing to stop it. I work night shift so once I get some sleep today if I have time before I leave for work again I want to check out some prices and information about pellet guns. I can’t kill a dog but I’m at the point where I can send it back home with a couple of wounds

Sorry I’ve worked a lot of hours and havent Been on in awhile and was reading through old posts and even if I could bring myself to shoot a dog animal control says if we are aware that the dog is someone’s pet regardless if it’s on our property it is a felony to shoot. Laws are strange in my area. They passed a new law that says if a hunting dog passes through or is on our property in our county there is nothing animal control can do about it unless you have proof of it destroying the property. Our property backs up to hunting grounds. So I’ve had lots of hunting dogs come through our property and not one of them has been vicious towards me for my animals. Because most responsible hunters train their dogs and they are usually friendly because there with people quite a bit. But these are not hunting dogs

Ohh, I like the catapult idea.
Distract it from your birds with flying cats.

In most places you have to shoot to kill if contact made. Doing otherwise can get you in a legal bind.
