Dog up the road and the loss of a JG

Check your local laws carefully. Shooting to wound, or causing injury on purpose, is animal abuse here. Killing a dog who's harassing or killing livestock is legal.
At least, continue to call AC! This dog may have decided that your place is part of his territory, and threatening a person (child!) is not good. This should get results from AC or the sheriff.

In most places you have to shoot to kill if contact made. Doing otherwise can get you in a legal bind.
I think he did mention as far as people if they are attacking then something can be done. I don’t know necessarily this dog was doubling to attack or if this dog was just running at my daughter because he is very wirey In the past few weeks we’ve had a couple of interactions with the dog and he is very friendly towards humans. And unfortunately other than the people who live at the end of the dirt road calling us and telling us they solve the dog walking up the dirt road with my chicken in his mouth we have no proof He left the chicken on the side of the road before it went back home. Luckily my husband got home first to look for it and get rid of the body before I had to turn down the road and see it

But I do not blame my daughter for being frightened even if she hasn’t seen this dog threatening toward people. She has to stand at the end of the dirt road with little to no light. And all the sudden dog is barking in coming through the trees?! I would be frightened to. She was about to call the neighbor is at the end of the road to come up but luckily the bus showed up right in time

Thank you for that information. Good find. When I talked to the animal control guy this morning he said that if I have some kind of proof there is a fine for killing poultry bit those laws look a little more in depth. But to get proof means I have to lose another chicken in them not letting that happen

And it’s a good thought. I’m not opposed to a gun when it comes to a raccoon or possum we’ve had to take out those with a gun because of our chickens but I cannot bring myself to shoot a dog. I can’t blame the dog. It’s just being a dog. But I 100% blame the owners for knowing this is happening and not doing a thing to stop it. I work night shift so once I get some sleep today if I have time before I leave for work again I want to check out some prices and information about pellet guns. I can’t kill a dog but I’m at the point where I can send it back home with a couple of wounds
Thank you, I'm glad that you see it as not the dogs fault, for being and doing what a dog does. That was my only point I was trying to make in all my other posts. It's 100% the fault of the owners.
I would think if you told the authorities about the dog scaring your child, that might make them act against the dog owner finally. Good luck

If I was the dog owner, I would rather have a dog with a sore bum, or even with a ball bearing in it's bum than a dead dog.
However, you are right to mention the law might see it differently.

! It's quicker and easier to punish the animal. But the easy way is not the right way!

Good grief it's not about punishment of the dog it's about protecting your own animals. Stop saying the same thing, over and over and over we heard you. Some agree with you and many do not.
Move past it then.

When it comes to shooting and not shooting a dog I think that has to do with situation by situation. I did not witness it happening and until the barking and running at my daughter this morning has not shown aggression towards us. And I don’t even know if he was being aggressive this morning or just being the energetic dog he is. If I had witnessed it and showed aggression towards everyone I might feel differently. Every situation is different. But the original post wasn’t meant to cause debate on shooting a dog but just suggestions on what to do in this situation such as this
