Dominique/Easter Egger mix. Is she a Roo?

This baby was hatched out about 6 weeks ago and we are starting to worry that she is a Rooster. She looks like a girl and acts like a girl (dominant pecking behaviour ) but her vocalizations seem male. What do you think?

Here she is with a Welsummer that we are almost positive is a Roo.

What does your EE look like?

In chicatist's case, the EE is solid colored, or has a solid base and the hen was barred. Barred hens only have 1 copy of the barring gene, and can only pass them to their sons

In your case, since the rooster is barred and has 2 barring genes, he can pass it on to all offspring, so you don't get sex links. All the chicks will end up barred.

Then your barred chick is a roo because the barred hen(Dominique in this case) can only pass the barring gene to her male offspring.... your chick is technically a black sex link roo.

Ruh Ro! Oh noo. Thanks so much for telling me. I don't have enough hens to support another rooster so I'll have to find him a home or something...

Nice thing is that with that pair, you can always tell the boys pretty early by their coloring, (barring)

I have two EE/Dom hens that look just like yours. However the it was a Dom Rooster and EE mom.

If the male parent is barred then all the offspring will be barred, so it doesn't work the other way around..... the female must be barred and the male none barred for a sex link,
