omg I am really nervous now. NO pip on the Sept 17th set egg. The double yolk is due to hatch tomorrow.

I had a drop in the temp this evening. Checked the bator at 9 45 p.m. and it was down to 97.5.

I didnt kill the rest of my eggs. I am going to do another float test as soon as the bator temp is back up to 99.5.

will post results here in a while.

ok I just finished a float test on them. The egg from Sept 17th shows slight movement, so still gotta cross fingers it will hatch tomorrow. the 2 eggs that was set on sept 20th and due to hatch saturday, they are rocking and rolling strong.

The double yolk, shows no movement in the float test, BUUUUUUUT, I still am holding out hope, as I know it may very well be too crowded inside for any movement to take place. And with 2 other eggs viable, that tells me there is a less of a chance that the temp drop has affected the eggs.

I guess we all shall see in just a few short hours.

There is a YouTube video of two double yoked eggs hatching. One of the 4 chicks was dead, other three were fine. It is also on a thread here somewhere with photos of the three chciks as adults.

Happi don't expect them to pip, likely they can't get the position and arch necessary to do so. This is literally help them out before they crush each other's ability to breathe and die.

What's a float test Happi? Excuse a poor newbie for being ignorant.

Paul

You can do a float test on your eggs before you toss them out of your bator.

Take a large bowl and fill it with water . Measure the temp of the water with a candy thermometer. It needs to be 100 degrees to keep from chilling a live chick in its egg. Put the egg in the water. If it sinks to the bottom, the chick is dead. Toss it out.

If the egg floats with the big end up, you know the air cell is in the right place. Then wait for all movement of the water to stop, and watch. If you have any movement at all, you have a live chick inside. Quickly dry it off, and return it to the bator.

Dont do this more than twice on an egg as you will cause humidity to build up inside and drown the chick.

Reserve the float test only after you are on day 21 with an egg. If you have movement from the egg, return it to the bator. Wait 24 more hours for hatching. If still no hatch on day 22 float them again.

It is 5 30 a.m. I woke to the sound of chirping. I jumped out of bed and ran over to the bator. Argggg nothing. Then I realized I was just dreaming. Thats getting bad when you start dreaming about your hatch. hahahahahaha

Now I just hear the constant crowing from my roos outside. It is 57 degrees but it feels a lot colder then that. Im gonna make some coffee and read others postings.

Go DY GO!!!!! hatch please!!!!!

No. Not wierd. Not on THIS website, anyway! So welcome home to the people just like YOU!

Of course, I have a better excuse than YOU do to get excited over other peoples chickens since I don't have any myself -- yet.
