9 days, I’m 20 minutes from home so I’ll be driving back and forth to check on occasion. I thought about taking them with me but I’m scared to move them at this stage
Oh, bummer...I would not try to move them. What kind of 'sitting' can you just go there a couple-few times a day?

Im not sure... maybe putting them in an egg carton inside the bator to keep them still? Then wrapping the whole incubator in a sleeping bag or banket or one of those insulated pizza box warmer bag thingys? Then when you get there just put them back in their proper positions? You could put sponges inside to not worry about water spilling then just replace the bowls when you get there

How long would you be able to spend at your house checking on them between visits?

I like those ideas! The egg carton is brilliant.

I’d spend probably 3 hours max cuz I’d be taking care of my animals at home too cuz my mom works.

Wish I could but they’re paying me for in-house sitting so that wouldn’t be honest. They also have a new puppy so they really need someone to stay. I’m kinda rooting for them not getting the passport today though so i can stay home till they get it lol

You really set yourself up for a lot of anxiety by choosing double-yolkers for your FIRST hatch and then having to leave at the most critical times! Not to mention these are ducks and ducks always take their time compared to chickens.

Learning how to properly assist takes some experience and intuition because a lot of it is all based on your best judgement in the moment which can be poor if you dont have past experience with it.

With help you can certainly have success, but perhaps in the future before doing this again you should practice on call ducks, they’re awfully hard to hatch and so unbelievably worth it :)

5 is gone.....

I opened up the egg all the way and there was this tiny, perfect, fully formed little duckling in there... I’ve never felt this sad in my life, just seeing this poor little thing in there seemingly healthy yet still dead. He was breach though, his head was towards the narrow end and his feet were by the air cell. I’m guessing maybe he tried to hatch but couldn’t? He was a single in there (no clue how two would fit cuz he really took up ALL the room!) so I thought he’d be able to do it but I guess I was wrong :(
Unabsorbed yolk sack too.

Sad :(

Ducks weren’t my first choice for this endeavor, but it was unfortunately all I had available because it was the only hatchery that said they frequently have doubles.

Me not being there to hover might be a good thing though because it’ll keep me from jumping in too soon.

Just lost 5 though so I’m extremely upset right now :(

Just found this thread. Thought the eggs were due to hatch on Christmas eve? or are you still waiting? It will be interesting to see how many hatch. Good luck!

Thank you for following! Had they been regular chicks they would have hatched around Christmas but they’re Muscovies so they take longer :D

Still excited to see how many I get too!
