I thought you wanted to be a Scientist/Researcher....
...maybe I misunderstood.

I do, but you don’t need to be detached from emotions in order to be one :)

I’m going to school to be a behavioral researcher so I feel the more emotionally invested I am the more I’ll be able to understand what I’m researching. Cuz being detached from something I’m spending a lot of time with just isn’t in my genes :gig

If anything, the potential heartbreak will just motivate me more to be better next time!

Any researcher needs to be objective....or their data will be skewed with bias and pretty much useless to science.

Attached doesn’t mean not objective. You can be objective yet still connected to your subjects. It helps give you a better understanding of behavior too since you’ll sooner recognize something that’s out of the norm. Also if you’re trying to determine why a certain behavior is performed, intimate knowledge of the subject can help determine that question :)

That's knowledge of your subjects which is different that emotionally invested

My professor who spent years researching beluga whales spent hours and hours observing this trio of belugas at the aquarium, and he was emotionally invested in his subjects too. He developed an entire new way of determining pregnancy in beluga whales, so he got results regardless of how emotionally connected he was to them. It’s all about how you handle yourself. Will I be heartbroken if I get a duckling that doesn’t stand a chance at having a normal life? Of course. But will I be able to euthanize them regardless of my own emotions? Absolutely. You don’t need to be a stone cold academic to get objective results during research, as long as you’re able to separate your own feelings from the experiment when it comes down to making choices. But you can definitely be emotionally invested in your subjects, and most humans will be because it’s simply in our nature to do so. Doesn’t mean you can’t get outstanding results :)

So this is what’s happening to 5... any guesses as to what’s going on?

Also, my humidity keeps being annoying! I’ve got 4 bowls of water in there and sometimes it’s 60, other times it’s 40 like wtf?! Why?? How can I make it stop shifting?!
