Still air should be higher than incubators with fans. Like 101-102 degrees. So if you have been running still air at 99-100, they may take a little longer.

Just leave it and let it work it's way out if you mess with it and the yolk is not completely absorbed it will die. It will be weak if you help - they can take a few days to hatch

It's ok for 24-48hrs of no food but you can give it water. They ate still absorbing the yolk

Ok I hope all the chicken people see this too. Ducks *can* take much longer than chickens. Even 48 house from external pip is not unheard of. Of course, they can be quick too! But Ducks pip, then continue absorbing. Chickens are usually nearly done absorbing once they pip. So please don’t rush ducks.

Ones in the wrong end can still hatch on their own, but I’ve seen they have more trouble in more pointed eggs. Mine are usually much rounder on both ends. But still wait until either the membrane looks to be drying out (turning brown) or until it looks like the baby is in distress and can’t progress.

Ducks also tend to make multiple pips before starting to zip. I think they adjust position more than chickens do.

Yes it’s been a tiny bit low but I’m afraid if I ask my mom to change the settings it might go too high. Isn’t it better to be a touch too low than too high?

Let the ducks get out on thier own. If you keep messing with them you can cause injury by helping. They should do just fine. When I do chickens, often when I see one has pipped, sometimes its the next day before they make it out. Its hard work! So they take breaks. But sometimes one would pipe and Id come back an hour later and there it was! Just be patient.

The one that pipped will probably be okay but the doubles will need help since if they do make it to term they rarely hatch on their own. Definitely leaving the single one alone till tomorrow though and then reevaluate

Also, I thought it was supposed to be lower for hatch? Normal for still air 101.5 but at hatch drop to 100.5? That’s why I haven’t been too worried about one degree too low. Too high is when I have a mini heart attack LOL

Right. I wouldn’t increase it now, and risk going too high. It should be ok.
I never drop it during hatch, but Storey’s guide says there is some benefit, because ducklings generate more heat themselves at hatch time. So dropping the temp can be beneficial to their respiratory system.

Humidity is holding steady at 50 and temp is 99.5 still air but I figured I wouldn’t ask her to change the temp cuz you never know. Steady seems the better choice right now!

Ha! At least you can watch from afar....might be good, or bad....
