Hey guys so I’m dry hatching for the first time. I have heard dry hatching has a higher success rate? Is this true? Also, if y’all could give me some
Tips for a higher success rate please lmk.

So called Dry hatching is silly. If you live it a humid area it's ok to do. Where I live the RH is 10~15% most of the year, so a dry hatch here would cook my eggs.

I would never do a dry hatch, as I feel there is a lot of evidence of 45% RH is good.
Why change what works?

Interesting topic. I am considering hatching Marans eggs and read that a lower humidity until lockdown can lead to more success because the shell is thicker and pores smaller.
I wonder if it’s anecdotal or if there is truth to successful dry hatching according to the breeds egg shell density?

Better than what?? Without your personal comparison.. there is no "better"..

My first hatch, hand turned at standard recommended temps/humidity in a still air bator was also my highest hatch rate (100%).. having rarely achieved the same since going to auto-turners and circulated air. Also not having the same stock, etc.

A copy of the article that lead me to TRY dry hatching and see what happens (even though I don't agree with EVERYthing it says, always use YOUR best judgement)..

Dry doesn't mean truly dry.. since it is relative your local ambient humidity and may change seasonally. This was a good write up..

I have done it as low as about 15-30% rh for the first 18 days 60% for hatch with Marans eggs.. with success a plenty (Numbers escape me this long later, but records were kept).

35-45% is MY preferred range for most eggs including Silkies, Marans, Ameraucana, etc.. white eggs.. having less bloom would stick closer to the 45% mark..

My favorite technical hatching resource..

Some of the links may not work anymore but a lot of the greatest tips I've found came from the following link..

Happy hatching! :jumpy :jumpy

So a dry hatch is worse. Our house humidity is never above 30. We are working on it. So every 30 minutes i was adding water to the incubator.
First hatch was 6 out of 7
Second hatch 3 out of 6 but one passed away. But from different flocks
