D'uccle Thread

Try Nustock for leg mites. It is an ointment made from sulfur and pine tar. Supposed to work wonders. Apply it by rubbing it generously on the shaft of the legs as best you can between and around the feathers. You apply it every couple of days for a week or two and then the scales slough off. (Dont tell anyone but Nustock cured a place I had on my scalp for over 8 years, sorta like a human hot spot like animals and dogs get is the best way to describe it....1 month of daily application and its gone, honest.) I'm using nustock right now to treat my old man rooster in my avatar. I ordered mine. Agrisupply has it in their stores. Tractor supply might. If you need it immediately and cant find it, PM me and I can give you the secret recipeto make it at home. Hope she gets refief soon!

Hi everyone,

We're having a dismal time with our chickens the last two days.

I'm hoping some of you with d'Uccles might be able to help. One of my daugher's little hens was refusing to walk today and is using her wings for balance. She will not put any weight on one of her legs. Upon closer inspection, it looks like substantial scaly leg mite is going on under all those feathers.
My daughter said this hen has always kind of "shuffled", but not like this. We purchased them in the fall and this hen is at least 2 years old.

So, any ideas? She scarfed down a little plate of scrambled eggs and yogurt.

I'd like to treat them for scaly leg mite, but how does that work with those feathered legs? Thanks in advance!
Bag Balm

Ditto & easy to find. It is soooo thick that it stays on. I use it on my feather footed Cochins.

Thanks to each of you for the help! I'm seeing signs of it on everyone, so I'll treat them all.

More questions:
How often should I put it on?
Is it ok to put on in this cold weather? (low teens at night, 20 for highs)
How long do I continue using it?

Thanks again!

I would put it on every 2-3 days. It usually takes about 10 days -2 weeks for all the scales to come off & leave clean feet/skin. No problem using it in cold weather. If I see it in warmer weather, I soak their feet for about ten minutes in warm water, dry them off & then apply. It seems to soak in better when their feet are warm & moist. However, I wouldn't get their feet wet in this weather. Do they roost on wood??? That's where they get the mites. I can't remember the name of the product (someone on here will chime in) but you can brush it on the wood to kill the mites. Good luck. :)

I use tea tree oil

does anyone here have cuckoo, lemon citrin, red, buff, white, blue millie fleur, ermine, or silver d'uccle hatching eggs that will be available this spring or know someone who does. I would also like to know if there are any project colored ones, would love to help develope a color. Are there any known frizzled d'uccles I have a frizzled polish hen that im going to experiment with.

I have hatched my first lemon d'uccle cross. Also a silver and blue dilution d'uccle cross. Check out these chicks!

I will have some projects birds for sale later on in the year. I may also be producing chocolate, but that is still out for the jury. She's the one on the far left. Her father is the roo in the next picture after that, whom I suspect to have chocolate..

I carry a lot of blue diluted d'uccle/serama and d'uccle/silkie/serama cross projects. Check back later this summer. I'll also be posting the chick's colors as they age.

I forgot, I have some pumpkin dilutes in the hatch as well. They are coming out pale pink coral color and they also have the blue gene, as there is no black, only gray patterns on them. This picture does not do justice to the pink salmon hue of the feathers. The one on the left is another chick I'm guessing is carrying both the silver and blue gene, but I'm not sure.. His chick down is pink gray.

Several of my silkie/d'uccle crosses have any extra diluter other than buff, which is why I'm getting those pale buffs. Here's a picture of what those pale buffs look like. I expect the offspring to go even lighter because of the pumpkin and other diluters in the serama roosters.

The lemon chick is on the right, next to my mille d'uccle chicks.

He is turning out quite cute, don't you think, with his gray puffed head?

So...that's how my project is going....

Hi there, I just placed my order for 25 Porcelain D'uccle chicks but was wondering what their size was compared to Seramas? I have only seen them in photos since the breed is very...NOT in Georgia lol!
