D'uccle Thread

I think dom white makes a grey/blue? Maybe the darker brown is when the bird is fully carrying it.. i read before that there is no such thing as a choc pattern; i knew the d'uccle could do it! Only lav pattern i know of is porcelain:)

Each time I re-appy it to her, I get another application too.

Just tell everyone you are a blue speckled hen lol

Well, I already am the official chicken expert at home and at work.

What's weird, beside that beautiful choc mottle coming out perfectly d'uccle, is that my extra pale chicks die. As in a lethal white gene. Not sure if that is what it is in chicks, but I know horses have a lethal white gene. All the chicks in the first month. Not the others, just these pale babies. Maybe if momma raises them, the chicks can get any antibodies from her.
Any ideas anybody? Ever hear of a lethal gene in chickens?

New face here! I love to study on this thread. No, never heard of the lethal white in chickens, but I know that the Lavender gene [in Silkies at least] seems to account for a lot of dead birds, if not at hatching then up to nearly a yr old. They were pretty hard to hatch out alive too.
I myself did not have much trouble at all, but still it sure seemed for real.
Also doubt that Mama could provide any antibodies but the fact that the chick is running with her might help. Don't know.

Hi, I am new to posting to this thread, but have been reading along can't find the info I am looking for.
I would like to know exactly what colors are allowed...and are the birds that come in "odd" colors not to be kept for breeding.
I have several different colored chicks that I have no idea what to call them.
None are Mille Fleur, one looks Splash to me, from experience with other breeds in the Splash color.
Is there another thread that deals with just the genetics or colors and maybe has lots of pictures that I can got to?
Or is this the place I need to be to discuss and learn from.
I thank you in advance and look forward to hearing from you.
Cheryl
