Ran some baby kale through the food processor so the peeps could have a fresh treat. I think they like it!
I love them little things, can I have them I'll pay postage.Ran some baby kale through the food processor so the peeps could have a fresh treat. I think they like it!
With my first ones, I was über cautious (they didn't get lettuce until they were 3 weeks or so), but Noir and Mystique got a little lettuce to rip on (supervised of course) after a few days (not much though, I didn't want to throw off their diet too much that young - just introduce foods - maybe 1 meal worm or 1 leaf of Kale (probably not the whole thing). I have been amazed at what ducks do swallow and lettuce is pretty bulky for its mass, so I think whatever they got it would compress OK as long as it is the leaf (with Kale maybe the stem bases would be too much but I don't think they could tear them off while supervised). If anyone has had any bad experiences, please post them (and I will hang my head as a bad dad), but for me it went OK.When mine were that size, everything got chopped into itty bitty bits - I was so worried about choking!
These days, with adults, I'll grab a handful of comfrey and lean over the gate and let everyone tear into it.
Chick grit is important when feeding anything but crumbles!!!I love them little things, can I have them I'll pay postage.Don't forget to offer chick grit when feeding anything other than their chick starter. That maybe tiny enough but might as well get them started on some grit offered in separate bowl close to their feed.![]()
You are missing out on the best part.... Hold out the whole leaf of kale and let them tear it apart. Less work and more fun for you and more fun for them!!! They need to learn to rend!!!![]()
