Yesterday at around 6pm I noticed that the egg had started to pip(I have attached an image, the red circle is where the air sac is) , but away from the air sac, and towards the ground. There is a slight hole as well in the internal membrane from the pip which I think the duckling is breathing from, I’ve waited about 12 hours now, and I can hear the duckling and see some slight movement. Just not sure if I should intervene, any advice is welcome :)

I’ve also got another photo from today that I took through the incubator but it’s a bit blurry 4DE94ABE-A475-4CE7-BCE0-464B2113622A.jpeg

How is the duckling doing?
The first pip is much larger and I can see movement. The duckling is also very vocal. My only concern is if it’s trying to zip the wrong way (around the bottom) or is that something that shouldn’t be an issue

I’ve had a look and there’s a small crack near the pip on the underside of the egg, so I think it is trying to zip from the bottom; should I turn the egg ever so slightly?

Wrong-enders will take longer to hatch from pip to zip, because the hole is actually the internal pip. So be very patient! It will indeed be zipping out from the bottom, and you might have to help it as there's little room and it can get stuck. When you're absolutely sure that it's zipping, you can pull the two halves away from each other, so it can get out more easily. (but only when you're absolutely sure. Let it work on it for a while.)

Thanks so much for the response, so I should leave it to do it’s thing and not turn the egg?

If won't hurt to turn it a little so you're sure it's got air. Depends on your incubator and how it reacts to being opened, in terms of humidity.
I tilted it a little and noticed that the membrane was very brown and dry, so I peeled a bit back so that the ducklings beak is exposed, but it started making yawning motions so I placed it back in the incubator.
The part that I peeled off had dried dark crusts on it (if that makes sense). Also if it helps, the egg had a bruise on it and that’s where it made it’s first pip, so not sure if the bruise is what caused the dry things on the membrane.( as I was reading about assisted hatching and the bruising that occurs on call ducks looks very similar to this - my duckling is a pekin
Not sure if I’m going to have to do a full assist :/
Sorry for the load of information, but this is my first time and I’m really appreciative of the help and advice :)
