Poor duck no.2. I don't think saline will hurt her face. It should be good for it. Be delicate around her eye. If she seems uncomfortable with it in her eye, you could try water there. I have heard original Neosporin can be used in bird eyes, but not sure about ducks.

saline won't hurt her and put some terramycin ointment that you can get at Tractor supply on her eye. Also separate her from the flock so nobody pecks at her again!

Why always me!!!! :,( my favorite chicken got killed tonight by the fox..... it managed to bend wires get through the tiniest hole and kill my favorite hen,.. i shot it in the hind thighs and it had a verry hard time getting away. the second bullet got jamed and the third one was a little ti high. i went and checked and theres fox muscle meat here and there in the grass so i got it good ... im sad that i didnt kill it one shot.. now i wonder if it will live, if it died or id it will come back...... im trying to be a good duck/chicken mom but in one year of raising poultry one duck died of idk what, a chicken had wry neck and another got pecked on the head to hard when it was young and died as well..... plus my duck almost died 3 times now.... i feel like giving up...

I am so sorry... It breaks my heart to hear you so sad. It must be so frustrating. You are doing your very best. Our birds are low on the food chain, and most people lose a few to predators. It's very easy for me to say that considering I'm not the one dealing with the horrible losses (yet). All any of us can do is try to make everything as secure as possible, but the truth is we don't know if anything is secure unless the predators try to get in. Now you know what you're up against. You taught it a lesson, and if it lives, the fox will remember that lesson. The best you can do now is make repairs.

But I would feel like giving up, too. If you did rehome your birds, I don't think anyone would blame you. You need to do what is right for you. My advice would be to avoid making decisions so soon after the trauma.

Again, I'm so sorry for your losses.

I'm sorry you're having trouble. A lot of us have been there. It's hard at times. We do the best we can, and learn to do better, and still have bad times. We feel guilt, grief, sorrow. I have felt like giving up, but always end up thinking I am better prepared for next time, and it would be a shame to get rid of them... Eventually, new ones come in to my life and I know there will be worries and trouble, but I don't regret it.
