Duck hatching right now and mom left the nest

good news! Do you have a brooder ready? The duckling is fine in there for a while, but once fully dry and fluffed up, you'll need a brooder.

So my 6 year old duck went broody, sat on eggs. One is hatching and it’s pretty chilly and rainy today. How long can she be gone and should I go get the baby? The nest is inside our duck coop. I have never hatched eggs before so I am panicking. Plus she is in with the general population since she chose their coop to nest in. Any words of advice are greatly appreciated
Looks like you got things under control :)
You may need to raise them till big enough to be out with the flock
My pekin sat amazing her whole 4 weeks but had no idea what to do when they started to hatch
Out of 3 only one survived
2 internal but never external and died and the last baby was at the wrong end and I had to assist her
I tried to give her back to mom after she was dry and mom tried to attack her
So I raised her myself and now they are best buddies

What breed is she? Is she a first time mum?
I expect the hatching startled her and she has abandoned them. I definitely agree with your choice to take the babies away.
She’s a welsh harlequin that is 6 years old and first time mom. I don’t know if any of the rest of these eggs will hatch, but I could really use one more to keep the one who just did company!

If nobody has external pip yes you can wipe it down with water only
Don’t use chemical with eggs going back in
Unfortunately it was a bad egg that exploded making the mess. Oh you guys, the smell in my house, I might have to move. I didn’t check any of the eggs before putting them in the machine, I just wanted them warm, especially the baby.
