We have a very effective guard dog that keeps all the predators chased off far away from the house\coops.
This seems to be the most effective method but I struggle with it. I have two mastiffs but they are indoor dogs, one with a huge prey drive. I’m not sure how to have an outdoor LGD and two big indoor babies. An alpaca farm I visited said they don’t pet or interact with their LGD other than to feed it. It spends all its time with the animals. I’m going to have to research training and LGDs in general. I know everyone out here has a Pyrenees and they seem to do a good job. I just always feel sorry for them that they are not in on the couch getting ear and belly rubs!

We have a maremma, and he is well human socialised. People do have maremmas as house dogs and they still happily protect stock it just depends what you want them to be protective of. My mum inocently made the mistake of taking my baby out to her car to get something and Biscuits was very upset about it. So I know my kids are safe. He is only 10months old though so he still thinks of the ducks as play things, and occasionally will try bop one on the head as he runs past. He won't be mature enough to leave unsupervised until 2.

Putting the ducks in the Duckio today, my mind pre-occupied with all things work related. I went to shut the door and saw that there was an extra occupant. This is not my cat! He/she is probably 6 months of age, and would not stop following me around all afternoon. I think it’s a neighbor’s kitty? At any rate, there’s no room at the inn!
