Duck shooting- give your opinion

The weird thing is Im pretty sure duck shooting is banned in every other state in Australia..... ofcourse exept Victoria..... why cant we just change our ways??? Im not against duck shooting for food, I think hunting is actually better than buying supermarket meat as the hunted animals have enjoyed freedom and arent factory farmed and force fed hormones and junk but I am against those bogan idiots who do it for fun and take it to the extent they are ruining the local environment! I think they should createtheir own reserves where they can breed and hunt their own, then if they run out its their falt so they have to breed more....... I really wish all those protesters luck!!!

No, not just Victoria- South Australia and Tasmania as well, I'm not sure if the Northern Territory has made it illegal or not yet

Are you sure ? Would you rather run into one with you car/suv/truck , than shoot one or have someone else shoot one to use the meat ? They are beautiful animals , whether they be quail , turkey , deer , antelope , or elk . In my area alone there were more highway fatalities from deer than there were hunting . You can look it up if you like . I live in the Flathead Valley HWY 2 west . If you want to be real technical , they are limiting hunting season this year on deer and elk in our region because of the wolf devastation on both of those species . As we all know , wolves attack for sport . They don't eat all of their kills , like I do . Wolves are not even Native to my area . So you tell me who is being more destructive ? I don't take my meat to a processor , I cut and grind it all myself because I can't afford it and even when I can , I don't trust them . What do you think happened before soy meat and other alternatives ? Could it be that our ancestors were right on a balanced diet of non processed meat and plants ? I don't sit out there by a corn feeder waiting for my game to come in .....I actually HUNT them . Forgive me if I spare 1or 3 deer or elk from getting hit on the side of the road where they will just go to the land fill. The sad fact is....if it ever comes to a point where technology doesn't exist....people like you are going to beg people like me to teach you how to do what I do .

If we let the animals just " be" , I'm curious to know what you think that world would be like . Next time you see a mouse in your house , or a cockroach , let me know how your " let it be attitude " is affecting you .

Sorry, speaking for people who don't live in a place with those animals except for the feral deer, mice and cockroaches- i didn't get the whole analogy.
Your point on the our ancestors... we don't actually hunt like they did, or eat it like they did.. We're too weak and pathetic for that. You claim, that 'if it ever comes to a point where technology doesn't exist....people like you are going to beg people like me to teach you how to do what I do'.
Well... I'm gathering you use technology while on the hunt.
If that were to happen, I'm sure that we would do the same as general do now, get someone else to kill for us so we don't have to face it or go veg or pig ourselves on junk food.
anyway, I might be getting off topic.

Personally I'm a not a big poultry eater, due to alot of factors I eat mostly red meat...

I myself hunt and so does my DH and DD. I have no hard feelings for anyone that is against hunting as long as they are vegetarians. What troubles me most are those who are totally against others going for their own meat but they will go buy steak, burgers or chickens at their local grocery and not think anything about it. Someone had to kill those animals.
I think as long as there is an abundance of any animals, I feel it is OK to hunt them. If the numbers do drop, then yes it should be restricted.

I agree. I cannot stand the hypocrisy of 'it's ok to eat if someone else killed it'. If you can't face doing it yourself or seeing it done, then you shouldn't be eating it.

I agree Cara. I can't stand the hypocrisy. Just because it is on a foam tray and wrapped in plastic doesn't mean it wasn't alive a little while ago.

I too am an avid hunter, fisher, gardener, forager and I also raise most of my own meat. Hunting IS conservation. Hunters pay for habitat retention, development, recovery and a whole lotta taxes on equipment and also provide JOBS for a lot of people. No true hunter wants to see any game species killed off, not ever. We want healthy herds, flocks and habitats to keep animal populations healthy. I will say those of you who hate hunting should put your money where your mouth is before you offer your opinions. Most of you displaced plenty of animals and destroyed thousands of acres of wildlife habitat to live in your swanky neighborhoods and have city conveniences.

I don't know how wildlife is managed in Oz but if a species is facing loss of habitat or numbers are low then that species should be protected until their numbers rise. Balance it out, we do a very good job in the USA for the most part, at least when hunters and REAL biologists are making the rules. Our big problem child now is the grey wolf killing off every elk and moose calf that hits the ground out west. Then they go on to kill adults, running them into the ground to take one bite, gut them alive and leave.

I also have never heard anything more ignorant by some of you claiming that hunters should use their bare hands to kill a game animal. The reason we use modern firearms and bows are for a quick and humane kill. Strangulation IS NOT humane and you truly sound vicious for saying such things. Primitive humans chucked spear after spear causing long, agonizing deaths on big game animals. WHY WOULD WE WANT TO DO THAT? Unbelieveable and completely insulting. If you want to deprive your body of protein and necessary amino acids then do so, but because you do that does not make it right, not ever.

Here in the U.S, we have organizations like Ducks Unlimited, North American Hunting Club, and other groups of hunters that keep hunting lands, public and private, out of the hands of developers. Here, the biggest threat to the environment isn't hunters, it's land development. I can't tell you how many places I used to hunt on that are now sub divisions, soccer complexes, or car dealerships.

I agree. People who hunt their meat are far more compassionate than those who buy it from the supermarket. Factory farms are far more cruel than wild game. Not that I approve of hunting either, but yeah.

On again, off again vegetarian talking... Lol.
