Ducky's story line thread

FairStep lay soaking up every bit of warmth of the little Ray of Sun. From the rays warmth a drop of cold water plopped onto her forehead, it was like waking up to an amazing dream. The cold drop soaked her fur causing her to shiver slightly, but the rays warmth overcame the cold in seconds

Finding something to eat was a difficult task, especially when the snow was so high. I sniffed the air around me, nothing. I thought about the rabbit I had eaten, it only made me hungrier, my stomach growled loudly. I plodded through the thick snow, trying to find something to eat or drink.

That's when the hand of fate decided to give me a morsel of food. I had stopped at the sound of some squirrels quarreling overhead. Just as I was about to start my search again, that's when one of them jumped to a branch that was too rotted to hold its weight. With a loud crack it fell hard into the snow. I smiled, if I was having a hard time getting through the snow. That thing wasn't going anywhere fast. So I walked up to it and pounced on it. It was gone in a couple of bites. But it was enough to hold me over, till I could find something a little more suitable.

I licked the squirrels blood from my muzzle, she may have a chance of surviving this winter! I looked to the left where the sun was still rising to the top of the sky. I trudged in the snow, following the sun. She had learned that following the sun could lead you to an elk herd, and with snow this deep, young calfs will be easy prey.

I crept closer to a small herd of elk I had found. Two calves stood to the left of the herd, guarded by a large buck. The rest of the herd was grazing on the little grass that hid under the thick snow. I crept ever closer, my nose twitching.

I had to have a plan before approaching, otherwise I'll get killed by the mother's of the calves and the bull elk

I looked for a way to attack without being harmed. I searched my surroundings for something, anything, that could help.

I stopped at thick brush. This'll help, it'll keep them from noticing me. I kept through the grass, a calf grazed, not noticing me.
