The op did take my emden goose but returned him to me he is safe and home I should have eluded to that.

We exchanged some frustrated words and difference of opinion. I do no know if he has other birds although he claims he has no more of mine...

Wow, he's worried about geese and ducks in cold weather.....unreal. As long as they have water to drink and food they are happy. Open water keeps them safe from predators. That's all it takes.

Thanks I feel like I was pretty irritated with him but really his opinion of my practice should be completely irrelevant!

15 years of history has taught me well my birds thrive!

They're fat and healthy as horses, and there are two pumps on the pond keeping water from freezing- how anyone could think they are abandoned is beyond me!

I agree with the signs at the ponds explaining why the waterfowl are there, who they belong to, what not to feed them, and fines or prosecution for harassing/luring/taking the waterfowl. And have some educational facts about waterfowl and their hardiness to handle the winter on open water.

Sorry you have to go through this frustrating process of protecting your waterfowl from selfish people.

I started writing a PM but I decided to make this public. BYC Community and 3FordFamily I have made some very bad mistakes in the last few days and the greatest of which was misjudging your character. Based on what I had heard prior, when we met I assumed you were the person abandoning the birds. I should have kept an open mind. Actually, it was absolutely ridiculous of me not to accept that the birds were not abandoned at all. I definitely let my emotions get the better of myself.

Since I had heard of these animals, I had been visiting everyday, sometimes twice a day, because I was worried about the imminently freezing water and frozen turf. I started extra fodder (greens grown in trays), just in case they needed it. My wife and I saw a maintenance worker remove the nonfunctional pump and my concern grew even greater.
I am going to PM you two contacts. I hope that they help you get your ducks back.

I am very sorry for the stress I have caused you. If I may make an effort to make peace, I would like to take your offer to help feed the birds this winter. I can bring feed or fodder so that they have something green to eat. If your HOA approves, I have 4" PT-posts that I could give you for signage and a weather and pest-proof container to hold proper feed, we could make some kind of designated feeding zone in a safe and secluded area?

I appreciate the kind words. You are more than welcome to visit and feed them, I never turn down affection for them. The hoa told me they're not interested in a public feeder area because it's unsightly and against their hoa rules like chicken coops. Signage I will need to run by them if we can come up with a good short but succinct message and clean looking signs it should be fine.

I got your pm I am going to do some brainstorming. But again feel free to visit and feed them and I you see they need any attention feel free to let me know although I probably already know two sets of eyes always trump one!

3FordFamily- What a great thing you have been doing for these birds, that most likely would of had a much different ending to their life! You and your family obviously care about them and do a great job taking care of them, along with some others in your community. I am glad to hear of you getting your emden goose back. I hope you get the rest returned to you(especially rex)
