Early February 2016 Hatch - Who's In?

Candled my second (and last) egg and saw no movement, we are on day 24. Left it in the incubator just in case but I think it's a goner. I moved my broody (nest box and all) from the coop into my pool brooder. Will attempt to take out her eggs and slip my little chick in later tonight. Fingers crossed that it works! Although my other hen is lonely in the coop now- poor girl! I will take some pictures tonight! I ordered a Super Blue from MPC, looks to be an Ameracuana (spelled that wrong) based on pictures.

Last year I managed to foster several chicks with a broody. Then when her eggs hatched she took even more from another hen that left hers after 10 days. Great mamas at times.

Oh look! Chickies! I bet that one is a boy. Boys always seem to manage to hatch first. Anyway, the color of that one would indicate EE because a wheaten or blue wheaten chick does not hatch out blue or black, but yellow.

Do they look like they are struggling or losing strength? Take a mist water bottle with warm water and mist them. Do they struggle? This is what happened to my last year. I saved 3 chicks from just this but I was positive they were stuck because one had zipped by was stuck to the bottom half of the shell. The other 3 were stuck worse. One had her head stuck. If you do need to intervene use a medical dropper, some q-tips, a set of tweezers and PLEASE... GO SLOWLY AND REMEMBER IT WILL TAKE TIME. it took me hours just to release 1...
