Anyone here realize that there are still aftershocks hitting Japan, and have been all day long? I'm talking 5.0-65 on the scale.

We live on the Pacific Coast but are too far north to see the effects. The surge was 1.5 foot waves, however the sirens still went off just in case.

An 8 feet surge took out an entire pier in Santa Cruz this morning, so they are not all 1.5 foot waves. They have hundreds of aftershocks and it is still very scary for everyone over there.

In Washington we only had 1.5 footers.

I'm aware of the Santa Cruz devastation.

Thanks for posting that map. My daughter lives in near the city of Aomori which is marked on the map. That is about 200 miles north of Sendai. She has been feeling the aftershocks all night and Saturday morning (it is about noon on Saturday right now). She said it feels like everything is swaying with each aftershock. She was actually teaching a class of Elementary students during the biggest quake. She said the children handled it very well as they have frequent earthquake training and most of them have been through earthquakes in the past ~ although none so severe. She said she actually spent a few minutes teaching them the English word for earthquake before the the second tremor hit and they evacuated the school. Her area had little damage ~ loss of power, things falling off of walls and shelves, but no real damage ~ thank goodness.

That was a cleansing of the gene pool moment. What kind of an idiot stands on pier during a TSUNAMI warning?? Duh.
