With the new laws to show in NC from out of state your birds also have to be tested for AI within 14 days of an NC show. OR You have to be declared AI free by your state.

Matt

I knew there was more to it but couldn't think of what.

Sad, because I wanted to participate in NC shows. Don't know that I can jump through that many hoops to do it.

Those same laws destroyed the VA shows a few years ago. They used to have a dozen or so each year. Now they have 1 or 2.

NC has worked in a loop-hole with some states with the exhibitors being declared AI free. SC and VA only require testing every 6 months to maintain that. I think GA is another they are working with. Quite a few of the OE exhibitors come up from SC and GA.

OK what does AI here mean? I come from dog breeding and I do not think you mean that type of AI for a show.

4 month thing that initially confused me..straight from code of federal regulations
"Poultry must be more than 4 months of age when tested for an official classification: Provided, That turkey candidates under subpart D of this part may be tested at more than 12 weeks of age; game bird candidates under subpart E of this part may be tested when more than 4 months of age or upon reaching sexual maturity, whichever comes first; and ostrich, emu, rhea, and cassowary candidates under subpart F of this part may be tested when more than 12 months of age. Samples for official tests shall be collected by an Authorized Agent, Authorized Testing Agent, or State Inspector and tested by an authorized laboratory, except that the stained antigen, rapid whole-blood test for pullorum-typhoid may be conducted by an Authorized Testing Agent or State Inspector."

PER OUR LEAD STATE VET IN CHARGE OF NPIP TESTING "All birds sold no matter the venue are to be NPIP (period)" Birds under 4 months can not be tested, but would come form tested parents anyway if NPIP.
But she also stated that enforcement is impossible and that there are many many people that either do not know about the law or know it is impossible to enforce and just dont care. The phone # for that office is the same as the one if you want to schedule the test on your flock for NPIP and is # 615-837-5120

Right now the only enforcement involved is for show birds, and especially on out of state show birds. I think that is why so many people think that NPIP only applies if you are showing or transporting out of state. When in fact it applies to all sales as well (they are just not enforcing it) ; unless being transported straight to slaughter (code of federal regs part 145)

Emily and I are coming! To look, learn and meet folks. NOT to bring home anything. Really.

That's our plan anyway.

Now I need to learn about NPIP.

I am bringing money to buy the d'Uccle eggs I won and that is it. My Dumpling, broody mottled d'Uccle, will be thrilled.

Maybe I should put a carrier or 2 in the back of the Escape, just in case.

Better stop by the bank on my way across the mountains.

Yes to all of the above. Best to be prepared. But I have boxes for those that aren't

Your broody will be thrilled with these eggies.

I think I will only give Dumpling 6 or so. The rest will go in the bator. I don't like to put all my eggs in the same place. Once they hatch she will get them all to raise.
