Nipple valve waterers keep the water clean and the pen floor clean - especially for messy chicks. It screws onto a soda bottle and then strap or bungee the bottle to the side of the pen. Allows more space in the pen if the waterer is not taking up floor space. I found these bottle cap nipple valve waterers on Cackle Hatchery website. There are probably some other websites or feed stores that might carry these nipple valve waterers but this one really looked easy to use.

Bottle Cap Nipple Waterer

I use a Brite Tap nipple valve water jug for my adult hens and love how the water stays clean for days.

I used a small swimming pool which was about $6.00 and some screen and you still need to change the chips every few days but at least the pool is water proof. I also raised the waterer on a small dish. It still gets fills with chips but not as many.
. yes thank you. how did you get that idea? again thank you. p.s. your chicks are so cute.:love

Cluckcluck thank you................the idea just kind of popped into my head. My avatar is of those same chicks after several months.

I purchased the pool from Toys R Us..............it was hard to find one in February/March

I use this same system (the nipple waterers) and they are fantstic. We use a 3 gal bucket outside now that they are adults, but while in the plastic bin "brooder" we used the nipples on water bottles. Water stays clean, and you can hang it, so there is more floor space.

I've got 15 bantam EEs growing like weeds in the brooder right now. I plan on keeping 4-5 at most, 1 cockerel & 3-4 pullets. Is anyone else interested in bantam EEs? The eggs they came from were a lovely sky blue, definitely more blue than green.
