Hi everyone. New to the site. I'm currently in the process of getting laying hens. I've got everything ready to go. I live in the walla walla area and I'm looking for some specific breeds but would prefer to have them sexed instead of purchasing straight run. Anyone know where I could find silkies, Polish, and blue frizzle hens?

My blue frizzle is sitting on 14 eggs right now...they are due to hatch around the 22nd...I am terrible at sexing and won't know what they are till they lay or crow! Lol

I've posted pictures of the 10 I just hatched in the incubator, out of 6 frizzle eggs I ended up with 3 possibly 4 frizzles chicks, but only one blue, and it hasn't shown any sign of being frizzle, I have her in with a red male, and between her and the calicos I ended up with a wide range of colors! I can hardly tell which chicks come from which mamma! They got mixed up in the incubator and I didn't have anything to band them with.

I'm in Finley. Mine are bantams.

30 straight run white Silkies will hit Bordertown Feed on May 7th, 30 black ones on May 14th.Too bad they are not sexed though!

Yea I have the bordertown list already. I was just hoping to get some already sexed. But it sounds like they're actually hard to sex for quite a while so I may just try my luck with the straight run! My kids wanted some of the cuter breeds of chickens vs getting a huge amount of eggs, however I will be getting some silver laced wyandottes and ameuricana's as well to get some decent layers!

I was reading today that americaunas only lay about 3 eggs a week, my EE lays about 4...I know it's her because she is the only one that lays green eggs.. Lol

My slw's are only 5 weeks old...my rir, gold sex link, and buff orpington lay almost daily...

My blue frizzle was laying almost daily, my calico every other day...

Well we don't need a whole lot. With 6 chickens I imagine we'll have more than enough eggs for our family. We have 3 turkeys as well and 2 more turkeys coming in at the end of the month. I've heard turkey eggs are pretty good so I'm hoping for a couple of hens out of the bunch! I also thought about a couple of guinea fowls, but I've read they're noisy and like to escape. Not sure my neighbors will appreciate that.

This is from my last hatch, on the 30th, I have some from the 4/5th too, out of 6 of her eggs only 3 frizzles, and no blues! No blue frizzles anyhow... Lol

She is sitting on 14...I'm hoping for some blues! The frizzle gene is 50/50 chance...Idk about colors...

I bred a calico to a calico, and the blue frizzle to a red straight feather, and all the babies look like they came from the same hen except the frizzles of course...and they didn't get her color!
