EE colouring / plumage - chicks vs/ adults --- Post your PICS!

I love that too, seeing how it all comes out. I spend WAY too much time on genetics sites and reading about plumage trying to figure out her other half. ;)

Yes, it is very interesting. I suspect Pegasus has some White Laced Wyandotte in her genetics, just based on how similar she looks to my Wyandottes. Pearl has some sort of barred feather gene, but it's hard to say what breed exactly this may have come from.

here is my update on my chicks, its been about 2 weeks since i brought them home and i think they are about 2.5 weeks old give or take some.

Wow I really wish I would have gotten better progression pictures but I did my best-

First is Opal, she was the most feisty chick. She was a beautiful gray color when we got her. Now she’s at the bottom of the pecking order and doesn’t give me the time of day but she’s stunning.

Then we have Smidge- she looked just like my Welsummer chicks but had a spotted face. She looks like a Partridge and has a great beard. She’s very curious and has warmed up to me as she’s grown.

Then we have Henrietta. I have no great pictures of her as a chick because she looked JUST like a Welsummer so I found a close match on the internet. She’s a golden color with the best gray beard. My bearded lady!

I’m excited to see what color eggs each of them will lay, I still have awhile to wait, they are going on 11 weeks this week. All my birds came from Townline Hatchery in MI.

Pretty Ladies!

I hatched this little EE (she was red when she was hatched with a chipmunk pattern) on July 20. She's almost 4 weeks old now, and I need to get her picture again.
She's turning white. Or someone said she might be a pullet, so that's what I'm hoping for.

11-week-old update pics:

Coo still hates being chased but actually likes being held once she's been caught. I still think her coloring is just gorgeous. 😍

Blondie is probably a boy, but is much nicer to the girls than our cockerel Sue. He/she is not a fan of being held, but manged to be still enough for a few pics. 😆

Wow they are getting so big! EE's can fool ya...im still holding out for blondie to lay an egg!
My girls will be 18 weeks wednesday and they still dont want to grow up! Lazy bums are gonna get cut off range time! Lol
Good news: the spastic one is starting to calm down a little and even eat from my hand...just DONT touch! Bahaha. Here she is stretching. She has large grar/blue teardrops flowing down the back of her head that rap around towards her front.

If people donated their photos I could start a theoretical EE color guide. I've done some studies on EE colors on chicks versus the adult bird, and usually get the guessing right. Of course, it is easier when the tail and wing feathers come out though, as most EE colors are chipmunk at the first couple weeks.

Anyway, a couple of those are a little new to me, but the lightest ones are males. I see a partridge-looking pullet or two.

Here's how mine went along:

This is Cleopatra. He started out an extremely light yellow chipmunk color, but started to get white tips on his first real feathers. As he grew older - It turned into a wheaten color.

This is Tufted. She started out as what what almost look as a golden laced bird, but she grew to have the typical EE color of partridge.

This is Marc Antony - I don't have any pics of his at true chickhood, but he was a light chipmunk as well, then turned white with black pencilling after a month or less. Now, he's a duckwing/white splash color.

These are my 2 I believe to be EE but it’s all new to me

She is gorgeous!! She & Coo definitely look related - the same brown & gray, just arranged differently. It's such a pretty combination! And I'm glad she's calmed down. :)

And we're really hoping Blondie is a girl, but we decided he/she will be sticking around either way until there are aggression or over-mating issues. Our cockerel Sue is gorgeous, but he's definitely more forceful, so if he ends up aggressive Blondie may become our only rooster.
