Put him in a little dish or cup in the incubator with a DRY paper towel and let him finish.

The stuff on its back will come off, don’t worry about it now. Looks like a piece of the membrane, nothing critical.

The important thing now is continuing to keep him immobilized for the rest of that lump to draw into the body. It definitely looks better than before, I’m more hopeful than I was yesterday, to be honest.

The things on his body is membrane and when I got mine out he had a bit too much membrane,so I didn’t know what to do and dipped a tissue in hot water and gently rubbed him with it since he was having difficulty walking and moving because his body had been so sticky and tight,if the same goes for your little one you may try it as well.

Thank you so much for the help! When I realized what I was seeing was yoke yesterday I was a bit deflated myself. I was just lucky enough to have wet membrane that I had peeled back, So I used it to cover the yolk. It seemed to do a good job until he did finally pop himself out. Area that has the membrane stuck to it was next to the yolk. I was afraid to put water there so that dried. I'm so thankful that won't be permanent

He's up and walking. I think his bum looks good. (If one can) I forgot to get a picture of it when he was in the playpen. I was installing mirrors so I moved for a few minutes today.

Today's milestones were drinking, eating, and pooping! A lot of all of those.

He's still a little wobbly on his feet, but he can find his way to food and water and gets better as he tries. He hasn't been out walking for very long. I'm not sure how long it takes for them to steady up. I don't think his legs are splayed.

Thanks! I used water with a Q-tips which worked everywhere but this one area. I will try again. I thought once it dried it would not rehydrate. I appreciate the top!

The "glaze" reminded me of the seasoning on cast iron. Crazy, but that's what my mind kept comparing it to.

He looks great !! His legs look good to me
Babies tend to take up to 24 hours after they absorb abc hatch. Some can take a bit longer

Still going strong . No mates yet, but they're coming. I tried to find a ducking to buy while he waits but didn't have any luck. I put some stuffed animals and mirrors into his condo

(Ignore the useless thermometer. It's not accurate so I'm using it to keep the duckling from getting behind the humidifier. I had 4 different thermometer/hygrometers set up and all 4 we're different. I gave up and bought a second terrarium control set up. There's a probe above the thermometer which goes to a reptile temp controller. There a sensor for the humidity behind it.

Are you running a humidifier in the brooder area?

It's normally best to keep brooders as dry as possible (although that is hard with ducks, because they like to play in their water.)
