Eggbid registration

I just looked at both sites and they need traffic! I'll post my next auction there in the next few days.

Someone who has a eggbid account needs to post a banner letting those people on eggbid know that new people cant log on any more and direct them to another website. I'm sure they would be for it because now there would be more people bidding on their auction

Maybe the owner of BYC should take it over! He resurrected BYC from the grave years ago and made it what it is today. Having an auction site seems like a perfect fit

It looks like this idea is going around: there's a banner auction saying to go elsewhere- if a bunch of people bid on it it will be a HOT! item and get on the front page.

I'm not going to bid the asking price, though! Wonder if it will let me bid lower?

(dangit- should've made the asking price lower...off to make another auction!!)

I've tried to get in touch with the owner of that site for 2 years to work out some partnerships and just like everybody else, never got any response.

The total lack of support at eggbid is a big reason why we built out the Buy Sell Auction system on BYC.

On a related note, why wouldn't everyone list their stuff on BYC vs. those other sites that don't get nearly as much traffic?

Although there are gazillions of users here, and likely just as many occasional lurkers, there is often better traffic at eBay and specific traffic at eggbid. Maybe 'better' isn't the word- I think I'm looking to say that more intentional traffic exists at other auction sites, whereas we're on BYC for camaraderie, friendship, entertainment, research, coaching, etc. Auctions are a nice plus, but when I want to go shopping, I find the traffic at these other locations is heavier, thus more to choose from- and I do look at BYC first.

I'd also love to have a link to the auctions somewhere other than scrolling down to another topic- I'm sure as you evolve the site it's going to see other manifestations.

I trust our folks and feel good about the auctions here, but I generally earn more elsewhere, because if I'm offering something boring or unusual I'm getting more hits out there. It might get ignored here for various reasons.

Perhaps that's the key to improving auction attention- new and occasional users and lurkers (the numbers must be mind-boggling due to the trend of chickening) may not know about the auctions, or they might feel nervous about going head-long into the auctions here when still getting to know this community. Maybe if there was a big, bright, shiny button at the top (more prominent than the other tabs up there) for auctions, then the paradigm shift could occur to MAKE BYC an intentional destination for shopping?!

It's all about the psychology. People go to ebay to shop, and no other reason. I kinda-get-around-to-maybe-looking-cuz-i'm-here shop on BYC.

Give me a big button that catches my eye when I get here, and I'm clicking it- see?

And occasional users and newbies scarcely get away from just clicking Search because they have a specific need, or Recent Posts because that's where the party is.

Many of us here are ADHD. Shiny is our favorite color!

I agree with ChooksChick. I still get better response to my egg auctions on Ebay and even Eggbid then on BYC. I usually buy from BYC members, but unfortunately I have to do most of my selling elsewhere. I think generally speaking most people are seeing less interest in hatching eggs this year than it has been for the last several years.

The reason I go to other sites to bid on auctions is simply selection. I bid on silkies a lot (lol) and many times there are only 1 or 2 egg auctions on BYC. So I go to other sites for a larger selection. If we had more sellers in each category there would be no need to go to other sites. Although I have NO idea how you could get more people to list here. You can't get a better deal on listing fees on any other site!
