Eggs Day 21...18 of 23 Hatched/ Pics post 76 (Superglued a Chick!)

Luck Cyn, I've a few Dels or Del/mixes and some Sizzles due around then. I'll bator watch with you. OMG the first born son of Algernon is a TANK with what may be too much color. Wow he's marked up. I'll take it as a good sign, considering the hens I had. Lots of color to most of the babies except the really white downed ones. This is fun.

I had two hatch like that here, I banded them. If they don't out grow it, I know which hen they came from. But mostly omg lil yellow tanks... And I bet I could make you fall for the partridge rock del mixes, the babies are adorable! And talk about big birds...

And I have sizzled a few dels but darn it if they won't go curly and no feather feets. I'd have to persist for generations and that's not happening but they're fun colors...

We are now into Day 10 with this batch. I set 26 Dels and 2 BBS Orps. Three Dels didn't develop for some reason and one Del had a blood ring, so I have 22 Dels and 2 BBS Orps. The BYCer would be fine with 10-20 Dels, so we're still doing good there. Why on occasion some eggs just don't develop is anybody's guess.

I have 2 double yolkers left out of 11 that are on day 11 and 9 single yolk eggs on day 10 all from my RSL girls. Pulled the rest and opened them tonight and they looked mostly clear except the 1 double that I figured quit early and 1 of the single that I was able to open without breaking the yolk look like it had a disc. I have a hatchery silver phoenix roo who should be the daddy of this bunch but had an EE roo within a month of the eggs being set so we shall see. This is my 3rd hatch, I have 2 almost 5 week old silkies and 7 almost 2 week old EE x RSL chicks in the brooder now. I has to help chicks on the last 2 hatches so I am really trying to work out the bugs this time. My non-crossed beak silkie and 4 of my EE's were helped so I am sure I don't have something right. I am thinking it was the humidity. I am checking weight by the gram carefully this time and they seem to be losing the right amount with no water and 25% humidity in the bator this time. I didn't do a really good check tonight but all the remaining eggs are about 2/3 dark so I think they are doing OK. I haven't been able to confirm 2 chicks in the 2 double yolkers like I was able to last time. These eggs are pretty dark brown so it is kind of hard to see in. Hopefully my leghorns will be laying when I set my mext batch

If I get it right this time, I will be looking for some blue wheaten ameracuana's to hatch so I can start my EE project

I've wondered about covering the hova with a blanket or towel in case we lost electricity but also wondered if the eggs would get enough air with it all enclosed like that?

You can't obviously cover the airholes that surround the bottom of the bator, and I never do. I just cover the top since it loses heat through the windows, which tend to get looser as you pop them out over and over when you clean between hatches.
