You're doing great, @hailey113004. I agree with @Eggcessive, don't beat yourself up. You had good intentions, you meant well. And now you are getting expert help and hopefully all will soon be well. Nobody who has chickens has never made a mistake so don't let anyone make you feel bad. We are all here to learn, and sometimes mistakes are the best teacher. Do your best and move on, you'll do better next time! God bless. ❤ I'm off to bed, wishing you all the best.

hope your chicks make it..... ive got 35 at the moment... i know how u feel, none of mine have had any troubles this batch but some have died on others....

I meant we gave it the brown sugar once at the time. but after that we managed to get a few more squirts in , and now its jumping around and being lively as ever. Its eating and drinking like normal now! It pooped once ( the first time we did it) but it wasn’t a “massive poop” it was mostly liquid and some poop. It just pooped again, but it wasn’t a big poop. do i need to keep giving it the sugar mixture?

The sugar likely revived the chick. I was wondering if that would happen. It's a good side effect. But, we need to see more poop from this chick. If you can stay up for another hour, you might give the chick another dose of the brown sugar water. It takes about that long for the crop to empty from the first dose.

If the gizzard is still blocked, the chick will get lethargic again since it won't be getting nutrients from any food it eats. That's why the sugar water perked it up - glucose. The chick may not poop until morning.

I'll check back here in the morning. Hope you report a big poop from the little patient.

Good morning @azygous! I woke up this morning and I picked up my chick that was basically dying last night, her name is duck, and she pooped when I sat her down! She is doing 10x better, but she does have some discomfort still I think. When she drinks or eats, she tilts her head back as if it makes it easier for her to swallow things. Other than that there isn’t anything else wrong. Now I also noticed when I woke up, two of my chicks gasping for air like Duck was doing yesterday. What should I do for them? The coconut oil to help them digest whatever is having a hard time processing didn’t really work on them. So, what should I do??

Keep going @hailey113004! We are all rooting for you. You have done such an amazing job so far!:hugsNo mater what happens we’ll be here for you. Keep up the good work!:thumbsup
Thank you so much. It has been a rough fist week, but with y’all’s help and a little luck hopefully I can save my girls. ❤️

Give them the same treatment you gave Duck last night. When we have an adult chicken that's impacted in crop and gizzard and coconut oil isn't quite accomplishing what we wish, we use a stool softener sometimes. That would be too harsh for a tiny chick, so we use molasses. Be sure to remember to warm the mixture.

If you can start a chicken first aid kit sometime soon, molasses and a stool softener and a narrow oral syringe would be a good place to start. And Epsom salt. We use that a lot in chicken first aid.

By the way, chicks and chickens will tilt their heads back to swallow. They all do it when drinking. Some, not all, do it when eating. Right now I have two baby chicks out of five that tilt their heads back when they swallow while eating.
