No they do not. I am going to need to start searching for a good breeder. It is good to hear yours has worked out so well for you, especially with your young children.

Please forgive the intrusion. We had 'English Sheplerds' when I was a kid and I haven't seen a real one for many years.
I now have one Caucasian Ovchrka and several young dogs that were produced when I covered the C.O. with my Blue Heeler stud dog. All these dogs have very heavy coats and I wouldn't even consider clipping their coats. It insulates them from heat/sun just as it does from the cold.
If I were to clip any hair, I would use a #50 surgical blade and shave their stomachs. I am fortunate to have a walk-in freezer where we freeze large tubs of ice that give ample relief in the warmer days here.
Again...please excuse my jumping in. I really enjoy following your thread!!!

The heavy coat does not provide benefit for an active dog. The heat generated by active dog dwarfs that taken up from sun. If dog inactive in full sun you might benefits you are looking for. My dogs are most active at night even during heat of summer and high heat does slow them down. Hounds have short hair in part because of their sustained activity while hunting.
