English Shepherd as Poultry Guardian

We are doing well. No incursions over at least last week beyond nightly visits from GHOs. Coyotes are being a problem for a neighbor to north where they distract his dog (border collie). The property immediately to his north with a few head of beef cattle is where coyotes stage multiple times each day. There may be a dear carcass is like in past years. Scoob used to raid those carcasses with or without Lucy's help. We have done nothing like that this fall

I very much do not want a fair fight between my dogs and coyotes. An outright stomping each and every time plus a very strong display before hand is a must. The coyotes are not likely to distracted by a soft target and will attempt to lure a dog out of position where not enough size in dog will make for dog having a tough time.
Kevlar collars help tip the odds in your dogs favor... Not too pricey either.

Bites of concern not directed towards throat like you see with dogs fighting one on one. Bites that worry me are directed at abdomen and legs where multiple coyotes treat a lone dog like a prey animal and get it down. Two or more dogs working together make so coyotes do not have ability to team up.

Also conflicts of any sort very rare. Especially if coyotes can tell from a distance they are out matched. I do not want my dogs actually coming to blows. I have seen direct interactions and the collar would not be effective in those and would likely hinder my dogs physical ability.

I new type of disturbance recognized. Some sort of conflict between human and dog in trailer court to northwest involving yelling, growling, yelping and probable hitting stirs my dogs, especially Ben. Conflict was protracted lasting at least 15 minutes I could here around 0400.

OhYikes.

Ben's coloration makes him harder to spot in field than now slightly smaller coyotes. Now I see value of white markings on most of his breed making them easier to distinguish. He is also undergoing a growth spurt and is pushing 50 lbs. He is filling out rapidly with head getting larger and coat getting fuller. Even when temperatures near freezing at night he sleeps in a position like he is hot.
