English Shepherd as Poultry Guardian

Pup Pup has a habit that needs to be broken. A ten week old game stag for some reason gets Pup Pup riled up so that she barks at him. When she gets out she promptly runs out, and chases him into high weeds where she catches him and holds him down. He squall's bloody murder, I yell and Pup Pup releases him unscathed. She does not bother others which now just look on as Pup Pup goes after their flockmate. Stag targeted is only grey on the ground. That said, she does know how to use a soft mouth.

She also help her mom and Lucy run off three large dogs the other night. She has balls!

My son and I had some bonding time over the dogs. I culled a stag and had some immediately feed it to Pup Pup. It was all gone in less than five minutes, possibly because too other stags were trying to get their share and the did a poor job of respecting her growls and snaps at them. Later in the day the pups were running the rabbits hard. Son asked why the dogs can eat the dead ones and no longer have interest in the live ones as eats or play toys. I could say with confidence "son I do not really know why",

Pup Pup is being left out at night to guard with her mother and doing very well. She has not been worrying penned birds nor messing with loan Dominique hen left out at night. Not all good though. She has been stealing rotten tomatoes left for game stag on front porch and going over hill to neighbors pond to fish out some rather large (10 to 15 lb) dead channel catfish and eating them. I like it when she take her bones to be knawed on over by the chickens along orchard so she can see everything.
